Rumor: Dubas has told other teams "everyone is available, except 87."”

Letang for Gallagher or Anderson and a 3rd is fine with me.
Nah, I wouldn't do that. I would do Jarry for Gallagher or Anderson. We don't gain anything by moving Letang only to add another $5-6mil deal for three years. Maybe as well just keep Letang.

If it's Dvorak, I would entertain Dvorak+3rd for Letang.

I bought it happens because that seems like an off-season move anyway but I'd want that trade to happen ASAP so that we have the option of flipping Dvorak at the TDL. If you can get another 3rd, I think it's a win.

I'd want a hell of a lot bigger plus than a 3rd if they're also taking a contract like Gallagher's back for Letang. It's not even that I think Letang has much value, I think it's slightly positive (like Burns when Burns was moved for a 3rd) but Gallagher is a massive dead weight contract.

I also vaguely recall a rumor that Letang asked Hughes if the Habs would be interested in him and Hughes said no, so I'm not sure if the Habs would actually be very interested in Letang in the first place.

At this point, likely not. Perhaps @50% in his last year if there is a need for a vet 3RD. Montreal isn't going to do much to get Letang. He's not a need and doesn't move the needle much for them. I think the best we could ask for is a simple crap for crap trade that helps each team fill a hole such as Jarry for Anderson.

You both are incredibly overrating Letang at his current level. Which is funny because I’m the Letang homer.

Anderson and Gallagher probably gather you another third in a year or two. Letang doesn’t.

I'm not overrating Letang, I'm saying that Anderson and Gallagher suck ass.

Letang is like San Jose Brent Burns at this point. His contract sucks and his value is negligible, but I see nothing that makes me think that Gallagher or Anderson are reasonable pieces to be taking back for him without a massive plus.

Anderson is 32 when his contract expires and the type of big body you can potentially pump value out of.

Rather take that risk. Also opens us up to take on additional D contracts to hopefully flip as well.

Nah, I'd rather ride Letang into the dirt as "part of de core!" than trade him for Gallagher or Anderson, who will ultimately mean nothing to us.

Letang for Anderson/Gallagher just does way too little for us.

I'd guess that the truth is that Dubas does have the authority to fire Sullivan, but it would take:

1. Dubas to think Sullivan was a problem (I doubt he does)
2. Dubas to convince FSG that Sullivan is a problem and they should fire him (I doubt he could do that easily)

I'd guess it's false that Dubas doesn't have the authority to fire Sullivan, and he's just as delusional as FSG is with how amazing of a coach he is. That said, I also believe that he'd have to jump through more hoops to fire Sullivan than pretty much any other GM firing their coach would have to do.

Avs should trade for Malkin to 1) make Crosby jealous, and 2) try to outscore their other issues

Honestly I think Drew O'Connor makes a boatload of sense for the Avs to be targeting. Can play any forward position (mostly has played LW in the NHL but has played C in both the NHL and AHL at times) in both offensive and defensive roles, while adding some nice speed and size as well.

If the Penguins were smart, they'd be playing him exclusively with Crosby to try to pump up his production and get a haul for him at the deadline. But seeing how they're not doing that, I figure O'Connor ends up getting traded for like a 3rd and ends up being one of the cost effective TDL additions.

Only Malkin and Pettersson have solid value. But if you want the Pens to start a real rebuild, Crosby needs to be traded also.

Agreed DOC is going to be a sneaky good addition for some team out there. And i think he has some untapped potential as well.

He got what he wanted, which was to be able to lobby his ideas to ownership directly without going through someone else (I.E Shanny). No one said they had to listen to him. Most GM's around the league need to operate within the guidelines of the owners. It is clear the ownership group is nervous about what the market is like post Crosby and trying to keep cash flowing as long as possible.

Genuinely, given the Penguins history between cores where they almost moved, could the franchise survive a 15 year rebuild like the Sabres? That is why the owners don't want to tear it all down because even if you hit on 100% of your top end draft picks, you are still 7 years away minimum from starting to come out of the rebuild because it will take a few seasons to draft enough players AND a few seasons for them to develop after.

Dubas is an idiot because this is his vision of making the Penguins competitive when he is clearly over his head there, not so much because he is still being controlled by ownership.

Shouldnt it be his job to convince ownership to allow a rebuild? A good CEO both set and convinces the board of directors to approve a new strategic direction. Its actually funny that PSG would hire a guy to win now, when hes proven with Toronto he can't, and at the same time believe a full rebuild under Dubas would sink the team to oblivion.

Friedman dropped some new info today as well. Nothing too groundbreaking:

Pettersson and O'Connor are likely the next to go. Crosby and Malkin aren't going anywhere. Letang's deal is likely unmovable. Karlsson's contract structure (only $11.5 million owed between 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 after his July 2025 signing bonus) makes him a trade candidate for next off-season.

Edit: my math is all wrong because it was confirmed that signing bonuses are included in salary retention. Either way, Karlsson is only owed $11.5 million after July 2025 and the Sharks are already eating $1.5 million of that. The Penguins could eat half of his remaining deal and have a $5 million AAV with only $5 million in total money owed for whatever team is acquiring Karlsson.

This isnt Dubas's fault at all.

"You cant pay Guentzel. You cant trade Sid, Geno, or Letang. Here is Karlsson's crap salary too. Good luck."

He decided to trade for Karlsson and trade Guentzel for a conditional 2nd round pick. Never mind the other garbage contracts he gave to bad players.

This is like when you people defend his decision to trade a 1st (Jarvis) to get rid of 1 season of Marleau just so he can sign Kapanen and Johnsson (2 bums) who he then gave up on after a season. Our sweet powerless prince Kyle was the one that made those awful decisions.

Karlsson was bad, but in his defense, he did just put up the best offensive season weve seen by a dman in 30+ years. I think we all knew he would regress, but not fall off the planet and be the captain of such an awful PP with so much talent to work with. The real problem with Karlsson is/was still having Letang. Pick one and if you cant ship out Letang, dont bring in Karlsson. Also, yes, not having the Sharks retain more was a fail.

Im not going back to TOR because I dont care to dissect his moves that much. I simply think he is handcuffed in Pit not being able to get rid of the old guys and really rebuild.

Washington is doing it right.

They aren't trading top 15 picks for 34 year old d men making 11.5 million and paying 10 million themselves.
They also aren’t winning multiple cups. Let’s not forget the most important aspect to it all and why Pittsburgh is in its current position.

Such a tragedy to be handcuffed by a Crosby, a 6M AVV Letang and 6MAVV Malkin and Guentzel, Rust.. all signed to fair deals. Instead of 5MM to someone like Dylan Strome, you get Graves LOL.

Not that I disagree to say, but I don't think lumping Letang in with Crosby and Malkin makes much sense.

Dubas inherited a bad situation and has done a bad job as GM.

I mean, Dubas then got a better 1st with trading Kapanen a year later. Not sure I'd call this one a misfire by him.
