Islands in the stream.
But score on a 5 minute PP at a critical juncture in the game and the outcome is likely different. Add Bouch's mistaken clearing pass into high danger ice that hits McDavid's backside for a crusher goal against.

They invested in a finesse, skill team to outscore and as they like to say 'make teams pay for any liberties against them.' Generating nothing and team mistakes along with poor goaltending were the difference in a solid game where the Oil played a good road game. Looking at the game holistically there were several critical situations in various facets that failed at critical times.
Just score more goals, Skinner is fine....heh. I know thats not what you're stating but the Oilers have spent most of a decade trying to outscore roster holes. Its not something that works indefinitely. FTR not many PP goals against us either lately.

The most critical break down in that game was Skinner letting in 3 goals in last 4SOG and looking like a clown on two of them. Imagine the pressure on a club when they know the clown in net can implode at absolutely any time. Its like landmines back there.

The failure is pretty clear. That theres been this much type invested in considering anything but the chief problem is odd. We need a better starter in net. Period.

It's like an expensive subscription to Skinnermax, that you just can't get out of.
Sounds horible, and more obsolete than Betamax. Its OK guys. years from now Skinner will be comic material. Stand up goaltending like you've never seen. Don't go to Italy, they throw tomatoes. Stu'ed tomatoes. Accidental line.

Hell would be theres two channels. One has Oprah Winfrey on all the time and the other is the Stu Skinnerd channel. Change the channel and you get the other. Sophies choice.

"We liked our Skinner so much, that we ordered another!"

Ultimately losing McLeod, Foegele, Broberg, and Holloway in one offseason shouldn’t hurt the team… if the guys we replaced them with…you know…showed up.
People can say “they wouldn’t get that opportunity here” is nonsense because they WERE getting those here. Let’s look at some 5v5 fun numbers here…

Arvidsson 13:36atoi 4 points
Holloway 12:46 4 points
McLeod 12:44 9 points
Skinner 12:40 6 points
Foegele 12:15 10 points
Podkolzin 11:53 5 points

So JUST 5v5 we sent out 23 points and replaced them with 15 points. Cap wise too….
The guys we sent out cost… $7.9 mill this year the guys we brought in…$8 mill.

So our team is more expensive, older and worse. And that’s just looking at those guys. The potential of the guys we sent out is higher than the guys we brought in as they are on the upswing for their careers rather than the downswing.

One of the supreme reasons for the quality shots, excuse pun, is Skinner assisting on those with rebounds to worst possible areas. Last night Fleury even on an off night made half a dozen stops against superstars that Skinner doesn't make. Its indelibly clear what the wort problem on the team is and it isn't defense. its the guy that fails to make the stops. Any other game I watch teams are giving up more chances than the Oilers are and not getting buried for it. The D this year on the whole is a strength of the team.
Uncontested chances after defensive breakdowns are a worse issue than rebounds and it doesn’t show up on the stats because a number of these odd man breaks, shots off bad turnovers and lack of forwards to account for trailers are outside the high danger area, and putting Skinner in untenable areas to succeed. Watch the goals against the last 5 games, I’d think well over 50% of opposing goals fall into one of these three categories and also botched crease clearances.
