News Article: Drury signs multi-year extension

LOL, this is not a serious post.

"After he took over they went to 2 ECF and 3 playoff appearances. This was the first bad season."

Care to tell me who he brought on board for those runs aside from Trocheck, Quick and his many rental failures?
Yes this is a serious post. Explain yourself. What moves did he make that were bad when announced?

Hindsight is 20/20. I already said Buchnevich. What rentals were a failure? Tarasenko? Mikkola? Copp? Vatrano? Motte? Braun? Kane was clearly a byproduct of Dolan, he had moved on to other moves already.

We know his bad moves. Buch, Nemeth, Goodrow (and everyone said he was 3 and done, and that happened). Tell me what other moves shouldn't have been done. The Mika extension? They lost on Eichel and where would you find a guy that was coming off a 90pt season at center?

All everyone bitched about all offseason was figure out whatever you need to do to get rid of Trouba and Goodrow, and that exactly what he wanted to do! He did the dirty work of getting Goodrow done and tried with Trouba until his agent stepped in. Everyone wanted Laf extended after the postseason, he did that too.

Please explain what moves make Drury ineligible to be the GM of this team. I've mentioned 3 bad moves. That does not disqualify him.

I am at the point where if you’re not planning to boycott watching/attending the 25-26 season, you’re not doing your part as a fan.

How does this make me feel? Like I just went through 'Nam.

That's how I took Mika's comments the other day about how the first 2 months were toughest of his career.

I sat there thinking, what did he go through, Vietnam? They dumped Goodrow and tried to trade Drury. Poor MIka tortured like that.

I could hear Barber's Adaggio for Strings in the background like Mika was Elias in Platoon.

LOL I don't know if that is totally fair but that did make me laugh 😂

When I first heard of the Drury extension about a half hour ago, I was waiting for HFNYR to implode/have an atomic bomb dropped on it.

I'm not a huge Drury fan; I thought he should've been let go along with Laviolette. But I do get what he was trying to do last offseason with Goodrow/Trouba, but he went about it in the wrong way. Overall, his track record is mixed at best (I won't go through all the trades; that's been done at nauseum). The Shesterkin deal was moronic. His drafts have been a little better, but the jury is still out.

He needs to change how he does things, especially with communication. There needs to be an emphasis on player development; hiring an HC that gives younger players an opportunity to grow without fear of being benched after any little mistake. Obviously the veteran core must be deleted from this roster. Future rosters must have accountability, especially for veteran players. This core is mentally soft; they need to be shipped out.

I dont think Drury's an especially good GM, but firing him would've meant giving in to the players (again). People complain about the fact that this is Drury's third coach hiring, but this is at least the 3rd coach the core has quit on, 4th for some even. I think Dolan is finally done with that, and we'll see where this takes us

You know, I had said I wanted Drury gone but whatever.

Bottom line is this. Sorry players, but your job is to play. You don't decide with who and who goes where and I'm really sorry if you were tight with your boy and your wives were BFFS and your kids looked so cute in pictures together.

You are in a job that less than .0001% of the people on earth are ever going to have. Theres under 800 guys on the planet who have your job at any given time, and you get compensated as such.

The downside of people looking at you like a prized thoroughbred is that at the end of the day, if you ain't running up to snuff, you're glue.

So, if Goodrow was really happy here, maybe could have found a way to score more than 4 goals his last year here. It's kind of tough to not pop up as a potential target when they are paying you almost 4 Million for 4 goals and you're a minus 13.

Same for Trouba. 8M$. He peaked the year before we got him, and he kept regressing to where you couldn't even make the argument that he deserved to be the #6D. How do you scratch young guys and look them in the eye when he was this bad?

So, the guys may not have like how their boys were dealt with, but the bottom line is that they didn't exactly pull names out of a hat. These guy both had to go. You may have felt like they deserved better, but they didn't get it. Move the f*** on.

These players that are left better get their shit together because Dolan has just made it clear where his vote went.

First order of business is the coach. I really dread Torts, but this group brought it on themselves. If they go there, I understand why. If nothing else, he will reset the culture of the room and chase out all non-hackers who don't pack the gear.

I'm not sold too much on Tocchet as a coach because he really doesn't win much, but he's also never really had good teams. But he also will reset the culture of the room, and that's the problem here.

I said I am not against Joel Quenneville and explained my reasons. If that's the route they go, I am not going to object to it.

This was a bad year. Make next year better.

This was a necessary move to signal to the players its not their show and signal to prospective coaches that they won’t be working for a different regime in a year.

I’ll forgive all the folks who were mean to me last week when I told them that Drury won’t be making moves with his job on the line this summer lol

I do not know if any NYR player over 30 should feel totally comfortable tonight. I'm not saying they are all leaving. Some will obviously stay but I just would not be signing any long term leases in 2025. :)

I have no idea how things will work out but it should be interesting to watch the process.
Yeah I think it will be a fun off-season for sure. Lots of moving pieces. I hope everyone can wait until the dist settles before passing judgment.

I agree. Lets wait and see before passing judgement. Well I will do that and you may do that but will this board do that? LOL :D
