Not a fan of this. Zero experience.

Drury has been working his way up the front office since 2015. He was going to take a GM spot some time soon.

It is curious now that Drury had no interest in the Pittsburgh GM position. We all assumed that Gorton was here for the long haul, but Drury may have known he could get a shot if the team fell short this year.

Drury as GM isn’t bad imo. He has as much relevant experience as probably any rookie GM can.

Him as president and GM is dumb - we need an experienced buffer between the GM and Dolan, though him impulsively firing the JD over what looks like him trying to fill that role as buffer doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Him as GM gives some faith - better than a Messier or some other idiotic hire. Wonder if it’s interm or not

I'd actually thought that JD might fire Gorton this summer and promote Drury. Gorton as been fine but his resume outside of the two draft lottery wins is pretty meh.

Pretty stunned that JD was fired as well though, if it's true he essentially told Dolan "if you want to fire Jeff then you have to fire me too" I guess Dolan called his bluff.

Really wanted JD to stay and keep steering the ship and didn't look at him and Gorton as a package deal.

since when did dolan give a rats ass about the rangers... his boys (knicks) are heading for the playoffs.... he should be delighted at that and buried 9 inches into a saxophone twisted out of his mind... not worrying about us.

I haven’t disagreed with anything DOLAN has ever done since taking over NYR except this. He’s completely screwed up NYK but he always left us alone.

Listen, I'm not a fan of Dolan's move, but I do know that Drury is potentially still the right man for this job. I just hope that Dolan lets him make his own decisions and doesn't interfere.

As much as I'm not a fan of this entire scenario, I'm fairly comfortable with Drury and the rebuild is at a point where things should start progressing and he has a lot of pieces/talent to do it. He doesn't have to be a figurehead for a rebuilding franchise which should give him longevity as long as he doesn't mess it up. If he is any good... this is a great scenario for rookie GM.

Would rather see Quinn go than both of them. Or at least just fire Gorton, but JD did not deserve this. Must have been if Gorton goes I go. Can't see a reason to fire him, especially when he's trying to bring guys in like Schneider and Cullye.

Now former Sabres captain trades for current Sabres captain?

his family is local is most likely the reason.

Holy shit, does this mean that Quinn HAS been coaching to win all season because Gorton and JD have been on the hot seat? Does that mean he was justified in playing Blackwell over the young kids?

No.

Because if they were THAT concerned about keeping their jobs, we would have bought at the deadline and Drury wouldn't have been hired. We would have hired some Dino-Lou esque guy who is still getting jobs because of shit they accomplished 20 years ago and is willing to do a bunch of stupid shit in order to get instant gratification.

why would this Ny Rangers team need a vet? Potentially, it’s only the most skilled roster ever with some bad contracts, a covid cap and a mountain of prospects a few years removed from prom, none of which can defend themselves. Why not send a rookie GM into this?

How about we see how he does before we write him off?

That would be an insane development.

And an awful harbinger.

If that's actually true and the team was actually expected to advance into the playoffs, in this division, at this time, talk about insane expectations.

Always loved Drury, no doubt he has the smarts and work ethic to do the job. Only question in my mind is, as others have mentioned, whether he will be micromanaged and forced to rush things.
