Adversity has arrived....again. However the Oilers appear to be immune to adversity coming back in numerous games and down 2-0 to LA. No Ekholm. The piss poor start of Smilin' Stu. Injury to Picard who was on a 6-0 heater. Special teams misfiring spectacularly. Connor Brown going down. Now its a season ending injury to Zach Hyman.

But someone always seems to step it up and there have been plenty of happy surprises this playoffs so far.

Who are your 3 top surprise players?

Lets go Oilers, finish off these MF tomorrow night!

4 surprises for me I would add Skinner to Kane Nuge and Walman

Can't vote the way I'd actually want to. Probably only have 3 selections that I wouldn't call a surprise.

It's kind of weird though because a lot of the surprises are just based on what guys did this regular season and now seemed to have turned the tables to their best selves again.

Skinner was lights out at times last year, but was awful during the regular season. Now he looks like one of the best goalies in the league

The whole defense was freaking scary at times without Ekholm this season, yet here we are seeing them at their best again. Limiting chances, jumping up at right times, getting in the lanes etc..

Nuge sure looking good, but then again he was good last year.

Perry I don't even know what to say anymore about this guy.

The depth forwards consistently finding a way to help this club rather than just be passengers is also a nice surprise

Another surprise that probably no one wants to hear is apparently Schwartz is actually good at scouting the other goalies weakness.

Jason Gregor is absolutely correct here. Having both Brown and Hyman out tomorrow is a huge hit to our depth. It's not a coincidence that we didn't score a single even strength goal yesterday without them. Skinner needs to be in the lineup to inject some offensive talent.

Hopefully Knob agrees, but he seems to hate the player, even after he's changed his game.

Lowetide & Declan going on about how J Skinner isn't the answer, and suggesting Max Jones in the bottom 6 and moving someone up.

I don't think they realize that Max Jones is an absolute disaster in the fancies, and the eye test matches. Jeff Skinner from January onward is by far the best player not currently dressed.

Jones would make some sort of sense if Dallas was pushing us around, but they aren't exactly playing that physical

If RNH plays the way he's been playing, I like our chances on closing out the series and against Florida. For years, we've been waiting for this version of RNH
Absolutely looking like Rookie Nuge out there. Haven’t this level of creativity from him in years. Even his 100 point season he wouldn’t have tried that move and pass to Perry.

I don't think he even makes sense in that situation. Toughness/grit is only valuable if the player has other functional skills. Max Jones sucks at basically everything and is a net negative every time he is on the ice. We’d honestly be better off running 11-7 and playing a forward short.

Skinner, Kane, Klingberg in that order.

Then RNH in 4th.

I hit RNH and then Enter so I messed up my own Pole. My other 2 would have been Klingberg and Stetcher. Skinner is not a surprise to me because that is who he always is, bad until he is good, then he gets on these insane heaters and back to being bad again. Its like riding the WEM rollercoaster.

100 points RNH always felt like a 60 point player and PP merchant inflated by McDrai and Hyman. This playoffs version RNH feels like he could be a Hall of Famer if he carried this level of play throughout his career.

100% this. He was piggybacking off absolute peak season McDrai in 2023.

He looks like he belongs on their level in this series.

I think if we end up moving on and playing Florida, Jones could be an option if injuries don't heal up, but for Game 5 vs. Dallas, I agree. There's nothing that Jones brings that's needed for Game 5.

Elimination games tend to be structured with more controlled physicality instead of tenacious physiciality. You don't want someone running around taking ill timed penalties or doing something that energizes the opponent.

That said, I'm not super convinced you can have a Jeff Skinner that sticks to the details and not got over excited to create offense when it might not be there, so I don't love him either, but would definitely trust his game to suit what's need better.

Personally, I'd be leaning Philp/Ryan to help with faceoffs as the team is getting destroyed on faceoffs, but concerned Philp didn't have enough games playing with this group this year, and Ryan really had no more wheels at all if he ends up losing that faceoff.

Tought to say which is the best pick, but at least I don't think they are all bad picks like we may have encountered in other years.

They aren't dropping like flies. Connor Brown and elkolm will be back very shortly. Only loss is hyman and we will miss him but we can go forward and not miss a beat. Maybe jeff skinner steps in and is hungry to show what he can do in playoffs. We have options
