There’s been some teams that have teased a possible finals match up but it never happen

2010s - Chicago Blackhawks vs Pittsburgh Penguins

Late 2010s/Early 2020s - Vegas Golden Knights vs Tampa Bay Lighting

2004,2011,2016 - San Jose Sharks vs Tampa Bay Lighting

1996 Colorado Avalanche vs Pittsburgh Penguins

As far as matchups that could've happened, I wish LA could've played a team from the east that didnt suck. I'm thrilled they won the cups as a Kings fan but as a hockey fan those were two mismatched SCFs thanks to the east.

If we're talking fantasy land time travel, I'd love to see a memorial cup style tournament between the best team of each:

2013-15 Hawks
2012-14 Kings
2017-18 Pens
2020-22 Lightning
2022 Avalanche
2023 Golden Knights
2023-25 Panthers

Could throw in the 2018 and 19 Caps and Blues, but those teams feel inferior to the other champions.

Colorado vs Pittsburgh in 96. There definitely would not have been a sweep.

Edmonton vs Montreal in 86.
I still feel slightly annoyed by the Florida Panthers franchise because of that. Robbed of a potentially amazing finals. They played to a 6-6 tie earlier in the season.

I'd like to see those peak Hawk/Kings and the 22 Avs teams - which I think are the best of the last 20 years - against the 85-87 prime Oilers. I'm sure they would destroy the Oilers because the game has changed so much but it would be physical and full of goals.
