The guy is having a very good season in the AHL, proved he could win games at every level he played so far.

But now he's behind Spencer Knight and not the goalie of the future anymore, and it's unlikely he gets to play in the NHL for a long time with Arvid Soderblom also on the roster.

He could be interesting for a team looking for a goalie, I'd think? Could he be a good project for the Oilers?

He is only 22 and played best hockey of his young professional career this season in Rockford. There is no reason for Hawks to move him given age, goalie development arc, etc

Knight is positive addition but there is no guarantee he is the goalie of future in Chicago while Soda after strong 1st half fell off in 2nd half so there is no guarantee Hawks sign him to extension though it's more likely than not right now but even then, a likely 1-2 year deal for Soda doesn't block Commesso from roster if he continues to improve

Corey Crawford spent years in AHL and didn't become regular NHL netminder until he was 26 so there really is no rush for kid

Has one more year on ELC/waiver exempt. I don't see why he's unlikely to play in NHL for a long time. Probably 3rd guy heading into next year, which could be backup if situation change and then a clear path to roster the following year if he is doing well. From there, time will tell, you really never know with goalie. It's not like NFL starting/backup QB as the backup still starts a number of games, and if he's doing better, he'll get an increasingly greater share of opportunity. If best case scenario both he and Knight are good, cross bridge when that occurs, don't necessarily trade him now unless it's part of something bigger.
