3 years would put Toffoli one year away from UFA. He could go 1 year arb then UFA. 2 years gives LA some breathing room to get him signed long term after this deal.

Why? Then you are looking at 6-7 mil cap hit and you only buy 4 years of UFA. This way they can wait two more years on cheaper deal then sign him for that deal buying 6 years of UFA.

Personal preference.

I feel players lose a-lot of production at ages 28/29. Also if the Kings buyout Richards, his 4 million cap hits will hit in two/three seasons.

Would prefer Toffoli not to be an UFA when that happens.

Would rather overpay young Core players going into their prime production years of 22-28, Like Drew Doughty.
