Ummmm, Drai may not play on a stacked team but he does powerplay with McD, Nuge, Barrie, and Kane. He is not exactly starved for talent to play with these days

You can re-arrange 2-5 depending on the year and such, but yes. And Matthews at times looked part of that group, but is having a very slow year.

The answer to me is still unquestionably Makar. Moving forward - he's younger, and defensemen age better usually, etc.

But if this was for onle one season, or one series - you can probably argue it both ways.

For the Canes as much as much as I want to say Makar as a dynamic RHD is exactly what is needed moving forward, getting Drai and giving a legit 1-2 C depth, moving Kotkaniemi down would be such a game changer for the roster

Draisaitl is better. Plain and simple. Age 29 vs 26. You get 3 extra years so thats an advantage I guess. Draisaitl will age better in my opinion.

I'd take Makar but really nothing wrong with either choice, just my team would be better with more defense.

Although its probably the same with Drai both are God tier game breakers and you can't go wrong with either one, but generational RHD are probably the biggest unicorn in sports and ones that are younger you can't go wrong with.

I’m biased but Draisaitl is the second best playoff performer in the 21st century and his defense has been excellent in the playoffs for a number of years now. Just things to consider

As a franchise D, Cale also plays 5-10 minutes more every game. If Draisatl really was Edmonton’s franchise 1C, there’d be an argument. But we all know this is leading into the McDavid/Makar poll this summer.

That poll won’t be even close though


As a side note, Draisaitl clearly puts up well over franchise C numbers. Is Malkin not a franchise C because he plays behind Crosby?. Does 1C or 2C matter if your 2C puts up 1.55 ppg?

Still pretty much the same debate 3 years later with not much changing. Can’t really go wrong with either. I’d still probably take Makar to start a team, but Draisaitl on the Canucks because of Hughes

For the Rangers, the thought of stacking Makar and Fox is both tantalizing and hilarious, but I think you have to take the center when you already have 1D settled.
