Bergeron is a defensive forward you just go and find just like Draisaitl is a productive offensive player you just go get.

We're not talking about Trevor Lewis here.

True. But I think it's easier to build a team to compensate for not having a Bergeron than it is to build one that can make up for not having a Draisaitl.

Drais -1 0 shot 22+ minutes in game 7 and yet he’s winning the poll by a wide margin shouldn’t people be upset at him?
3 assists/0 goals with a -2 is more concerning for the entire series, shows good defensive play can neuter him.

McDavid with 8 assists/3 goals and a +5 for the series.

Now it’s obvious that McDavid is a far superior player, but it helps outline how a one dimensional guy like Draisaitl suffers when he’s stifled by defence

When was the last time a team that went offense heavy won a cup? You can create good offense through depth, it’s much harder to fill the defensive side of the game. Edmonton would have been the first for quite some time and they were just as close to being knocked out in the 2nd round.

It’s still heavily based on opinion and how you want your team to look. For instance, if I am LA and I could’ve had one of them over the last three seasons? I take Draisiatl without any hesitation.

Pitt, Tampa, Colorado….
I wouldn't go that far but I'd argue that on most teams in the league Bergeron would be out there if you need a goal at the end of the game as well, not just on defense

I think he's getting painted as a black hole specialist which isn't true

and i do think that similarly Draisaitl could have a mean two-way game if asked to
It’s not that Bergeron isn’t capable of doing that, it’s that Bergeron is being talked about as this “two way” player that can equally provide high level offense and defense. But his highest offensive seasons had him playing with two other highly offensive players.

We're talking about choosing one player though. Getting Draisaitl doesn't mean the team is offense heavy.

Totally agree with your last paragraph. And admittedly my choice of Drai may be influenced by being a Wings fan and their roster.

Not when they follow the team and watch the games, knowing that Drai was playing with at least a broken finger sustained at the end of the Vancouver series and later confirmed to have played with a broken rib since Game 1 of the same series. It’s not a coincidence his production fell off a cliff once the Dallas series started.

These things don’t show up on the stat sheets. You have to actually be familiar with these players, so you can see for yourself when something isn’t right.

I mean Krejci deserves a lot of credit for 2011 and 2013.

Right, which is why I only mentioned 2019. The poster was underrating what Bergeron showed by suggested he always had better linemates or a better center above him. He had his share of help in many years but he was also the team’s best forward at points as well.

He was their best forward at times, but overall he greatly benefited from the offense around him. Something the poster I was quoting, is continuing to ignore.

The biggest impact Drai had in the Stanley Cup finals was elbowing the best player on the ice in the face. Give me Bergeron every time.

The average sports blowhard: “Players should play through injuries. A Cup is on the line.”

Draisaitl played with both a broken rib and broken finger against Dallas and Florida (sustained each at the beginning and end of the Vancouver series) and all he does is get shit on over his performance. That’s what playing through injuries does for you when it comes to the fickle nature of hockey fans.

You mean give you Bergeron when he has Tim Thomas bailing him out.

Even a handful of geniuses in the Oilers forum were guilty of the bolded.

I can almost understand it in the heat of the moment and maybe not being aware that he was clearly off, but once it was confirmed, there shouldn’t be talk of it any longer. It’s expected from East Coasters who haven’t watched a single minute of their games outside the SCF, but it’s inexcusable for any Oilers fans at this point.

And Drai is no Bergeron. Building a roster or adding a player to an existing roster, I take a defensively sound forward who can still do 70-79 points over someone who can score more but is a defensive liability when on the ice.
I'm shocked by your opinion zero...
