Post-Game Talk: Draisaitl is the only hockey player we have right now

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Knoblauch is slowly looking like a fraud honestly.
He can’t get f***ing anything from this lineup. On paper this forward group shouldn’t be bad and if THIS many guys are slumping either they are all infected with the plague or somethings up.
I know the blender has been hurting the team especially when he gives a line a period before he swings to McDrai but like god damn.
Without Draisaitl being the clear cut best player in the league this year this isn’t a playoff team. Let alone a bubble one.

I don't know that people are bummed out as much as just realizing how limited our offense is.

Without Drai 49 goals we'd be one of the worst scoring teams in the league. We have McD with his worst season since rookie season. Nuge worst season ever. Hyman severe fallback season and the rest of the forwards other than Perry getting flat out nothing.

Come playoffs we've got a sputtering 4 Cylinder output thats going to have to keep up with Top Fuel monsters. You can't have this many forwards incapable of potting. That dog won't hunt.
Fair enough. We have also played a ton of road games since the 4nation break. I am not as down as the team as others, i thought our last three games were very good minus the not scoring part.

Everyone in the management group should resign after this season is over, how can you have that stat, be sitting on a ton of open cap at the trade deadline and still refuse to do anything in net.

No big bruhaha, just pack your shit and get out.

.865 points percentage when our goaltending is atleast mediocre. Lol

Also - on flames broadcast they just showed a graphic showing were second in the league in terms of 20+ mph speed bursts. AVS are #1 having just hit 2000, we're at 1875 or so, and rest of top five is around 1500. We're definitely not slow.

That’s a pretty low bar. Our last 3 games have been against 2 bottom 10 teams and the shell of the New Jersey devils missing 2 of its best players. Looking good and ending up with an OT win in one of those isn’t a positive thing.

How many of those are just McDavid though?

You think Brown is having a worse season this year than he did last year?

Brown is having a better year and honestly he’s probably been ok for a $1m player if we were to forget his bonus. (Not saying we should though). He’s largely a nothing player at the end of the day.

But there’s only 2 forwards on this team that have met or exceeded expectations and that’s Draisaitl and Perry.

I think J Skinner is only not meeting expectations cause Knoblauch hates him. Arvidsson has gotten the leash that Skinner should have gotten.

Pens beat Vegas the other day. No guaranteed wins in the NHL. And we are missing players as well.

This metric is heavily flawed as it doesn't delineate allteam speed. Just that some players are fast. Its also not very meaningful as it doesn't show where and in what situations the speedbursts occur.

Opponents are fine with giving McD speedvbursts this season as he's almost always losing the puck or running out of rink. Other players are fast and peripheral. Drai is one of the few players in the lineup even using speed effectively.

Not that I think either that speed bursts alone measure whether a team is fast or slow. Its pretty much a lot of noise in the stat.

To be fair to a lot of forwards, without getting regular shifts/minutes and some PP time, its hard to know where the fault lies.

I’m not one of the fans on here that thinks our season is where its at because of Holloway, McLeod and Foegele. I do think Holloway was a substantial loss but not so much the other two. Don’t get me wrong, we would be playing at a better pace and it would be more enjoyable to watch but not convinced this isn’t a #2/3 team on a downward trend regardless.

Pickard giving the Oilers the goaltending they need, the type of performance Skinner is incapable of right now. Even started the breakout for the overtime goal.

Player usage continues to be an complete mess, Knob doing the same thing Tippett did to get himself fired. He either doesn't trust his roster, or doesn't have the faintest idea what to do with the tools he's given, probably both considering RNH continues to be his 3rd ice time option. Either way, Mcdavid/Drai are going to be utterly gassed by the time the playoffs roll around.

What a f***ing revelation, you mean to tell me that a good goalie on this team would probably have this team a cup or two. Wow, imagine that. Oilers Management = GARBAGE! So pathetic

I think how you transition the puck more important than how fast you skate, tbh.

But I still do think we're a good skating team. I think we transition well too, tbh.

We've had a pop gun offense for a hot minute, but honestly I think it's mostly not executing and confidence. I could be wrong though.

The forwards haven’t produced all year though. Maybe a couple are just having bad luck but not all. Think just combination of not enough talent, no line chemistry, ice time, role, etc

I think skating speed and speed bursts doesn't capture everything.

Hear my counter. "Legs" Drai even mentioned the club had run out of gas in the third period. Sure this was a b2B but its been happening lots lately.

Far better measure is team miles skated. That would define a skating team more than speedbursts does.

We're not transitioning the puck well with forwards. Guys like Brown, Janmark, Henrique, Nuge, Hyman etc are not actioning pucks fast. Even when they get a breakout, and it was happening tons of times they were slowing up or slow to make a pass to opening. Brown did make one and Drai cashed it. We weren't making a lot of those players. I feel even when the D is making a good pass out that the wingers have been shit maintaining the tempo.

The forward speed on this team is down the middle. Even when we get burn speed on wing its Drai or McD doing it and not our wingers. The only other guy that has speed to blow D is Kapanen. Well Janmark too but his hands are so bad it doesn't even matter.

Meanwhile we gave up McLeod Holloway Foegele, Broberg. < facepalm>

Arvid alone even though he has speed bursts was squeezed off the puck multiple times tonight, flattened like a bug.
Our wingers are really ineffectual on the rush and while playing on a rush oriented club.
