God you Skinner nut huggers are relentless

Low and behold he still has below league average numbers. Bailed out by the post twice and by Draisaitl in the final 2 minutes of the game.

Yep. Their ability to defend the goalie that is the second best goalie on the ice 90 percent of the time is pretty hilarious.

My statement of losing more then winning in 1 goal games was true until tonight with not my fault in Skinner in net. He is now 6 wins 6 Loses in 1 goal games this year.
Of these 12 one goal games he has 7 games where he has blown the leads in 3rd period, the team could only win 2 of those games.

1 goal game wins
Philly 4-3 OT
Calgary 4-2 but empty netter 5 seconds left
Islanders 4-3OT 3rd period blown lead, 850 save %
Tampa 2-1 gave up 20 shots
Boston 3-2 first 3-2 win on the season
Tonight Ducks 3-2 blew a 2-0 lead Drai bailed them out.

1 Goal losses
Car 3-2 OT blew a 2-0 lead in 3rd period they got 3 goals on last 11 shots
Vegas 4-2 empty netter with 5 seconds left, another blown 3rd period lead
Toronto 4-3 OT another blown 3rd period lead 810 save%
Vegas 1-0
Florida 6-5 another epic 3rd period blown lead 3 goals on 10 shots, 786 save %
Kings 4-3 OT another blown lead in 3rd period, gave up 5 shots 862 Save%
your original statement that I replied to implied it never happens. 6-6 is a 50/50 ratio in CLOSE games. Sounds about right for an average goalie. And within my original expectation/assumption that yes, it does happen, he does win 1 goal games.

Atleast you dont defend him on all his bad goals and just call out McDrai.
There’s bad goals. And there’s bad defence. This shouldn’t really be up for debate by either side of the Skinner wars lol. And I wish there was more nuanced discussion of either.

Thanks. Basically confirms what I thought I saw.

Does anyone know if Skinner at least managed to match the expected goals against tonight?

He didn’t actually make a good save all night. The one breakaway ANH would have been credited with a shot they scored on (the two others hit the post).

Depends on your source - consensus generally seems to be he was about -0.3.

Worth noting I suppose that Money Puck is an outlier tonight that puts him at +1.12. I think their model gives huge xGF boosts for the 4 on 3 though - they gave them like 1.2 xGF there - which I didn't think the ducks were particularly dangerous on, tbh.

Not particularly - it's always a flawed metric. Always has been.

It's 2025 now, we have more nuanced numbers that define goaltenders performances now a days. Like goals saved above expected.

Which Skinner ranks 40th per 60 minutes amongst goaltenders that have atleast 10 GP.

Like I said. It’s only flawed because you want it to be. On a night when his save percentage is trash you’d hold it up like the goof gospel.

All I’ll say if that Skinner is the goalie and it’s not gonna change so either get behind it or just continue to whine like a miserable little bitch about it.

Anaheim only hit one post. The Oilers hit three.

And Draisaitl should be bailing the team out. That's why he's paid the big bucks. People looking for our $2.6 million goalie to constantly bail out our offence are looking at it the wrong way.

And if the Oilers were a competent organization off ice we would have won a cup already.
2 cups. They had a cup winning team ready to go in June. The perfect mix of youth and exhuberance with McDrai. They turned it into a 2 man team again. Hoping McDrai drag them back to the finals. I hope we win a cup with the right moves this year. I have my doubts

Hey look:

Stu +1.12 Gsax
Dostal -0.09 Gsax

Y’all really gotta wait until the game ends for those “2nd best goalie” comments lol.

Someone people will never be happy. Stu could win the cupt this season with a shutout game and they'll still try to be too clever about it and mention the game 7 goal last year.
I've seen fans go from bashing a player to embracing him. Most even became Broberg fans before his offer sheet. Skinner seems to do okay but take the worst starter in the league, and they make big saves and can get the occasional shutout. What counts are stats over time, consistency over time, and how good the team plays in front. These lean against Skinner

Yup, that's why the Vezina goes to the goaltender with the best save percentage every year.

Oh wait, no it doesn't.
