Pro Football Hall of Fame Team (All 1950's)

During his 11-year career with the 49ers, Mr. St. Clair, 6-foot-9 and 270 pounds, was known for his toughness, and also for his famous habit of eating raw meat. A five-time Pro Bowl selection who spent the early part of his career playing with a leather helmet, he broke his nose at least six times, played an entire quarter with a broken shoulder, once stayed in a game after a blocked kick resulted in the loss of five teeth and twice had Achilles tendon surgery.

Before he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990, he was asked if the players of his era could have competed in the modern NFL.
“I don’t think the question should be “Could we play today?’” he said. “The question is, “Could these candy-asses have played with us?’”

“I do recall sitting in my position in the backfield, and about all I would be looking at was Bob’s big ass because he was just so tall and high,” McElhenny said. “He was just so much bigger than the rest of the offensive line. And the defensive line, too. He had great speed for his size. He would have made a great tight end today. Many times, I know he gave me a lot of daylight.”
During his career, Mr. St. Clair also played defense in goal-line situations, and his height made him a special-teams force: He blocked 10 field-goal and extra-point attempts in 1956. Mr. St. Clair was a team captain and a nine-time first- or second-team all-NFL selection. He is one 12 players to have his jersey retired by the 49ers.

St. Vital Mustangs have been putting this off for awhile, with such limited rosters the decision between adding another TE for 2 TE packages and adding a 3-4 LB to help the D move seamlessly from 4-3 to 3-4 particularly with an elite NT in Culp, and another DT with extensive experience as a DE in a 3-4 with Klecko. In the end the allure of finding 100+ sack player, the 1991 DPOY, and 2 time 1st team all-pro to create a solid 3-4 package to go with the already fearsome 4-3 package and make this defence versatile to try to confuse and surprise the elite offences they will be facing.

Philadelphia Bell selects a second tight end, as our QB and OC like to use a lot of them. And there’s like 6 or 7 I want to draft. Tough choices. Who was or was not better based on who the quarterback was?

We pick 5x Pro Bowler Keith Jackson. He knows how to play with good QB’s because that’s all he ever played with.

Another painstakingly tough call as the Philadelphia Bell looks to select an off-the-ball linebacker. Seth Joyner.

Seth Joyner doesn’t have the accolades (3x Pro Bowls), or even hall of fame consideration (ridiculous) but has all the numbers that is on the level with the best this game has seen.



At one point had to most games (9) with a sack and INT, not sure if that’s still true.

Only Ted Hendricks has more sacks among the 20/20 club (sacks were unofficial before 1982)

Also played the strong side which is where I need more help compared to the others I’m looking at.

So this is finally it, the final pick. I've had this one locked and loaded since about round 10.

St. Vital Mustangs will reach off the board for a punter who will give them some extra depth at many different positions. In college he set and according to Wikipedia still holds the University of Oklahoma punting average record with 47.84 yards in 1940. He is also only of only 7 players in OU history to record 3 INTs in a single game. He led team in offensive yards as the starting QB in his junior and senior years as well.

Drafted in the 2nd round in 1942 he played just one year with the Cleveland Rams throwing for 6 TDS, 640yrds while averaging 42.3 yards per punt and recorded 4 INTs on defence that season before departing to join the American Military for WW2. Upon return from the military in 1945 he played sparingly over the next two seasons split between Cleveland Rams and Washington Red Skins. He would take his game to the next level in 1947 with the Green Bay Packers, leading the team with 1615yrds passing, 16TDs, 17INTs. He led the league in punting with 2481yards for a 43.5 average and recorded 4 INTs as a DB as well. Although he fell off a passer in in 1948, then used sparingly as a passer in 1949 he remained the teams punter averaging 40.3 and a career high 44.5 average as a punter in 1948 and 1949 respectively. He also recorded another 2 INTs in 1949.

In 1950 he chose to leave the NFL to head to the CFL, back in the days when the leagues were fairly close in skill level. It's there that he developed as a passer. He became the starting QB for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he starred for 5 seasons throwing for 11094 yards, 104TDs, 53 INTs. Helping popularizing the deeper passing game he record career high of 3248 yards in 1951 with 33 TDs versus just 10 INTs, then broke the career high in TD passes in 1952 with 34 albeit on 2586yrds and with 12 INTs. The high flying offense helped increase attendance so much in Winnipeg that they had to move out of Osborne stadium to a brand newly built complex called Winnipeg Stadium (later renamed Canad Inns Stadium). This became known as "The House that Jack Built" and would serve as the Bombers home for 60 years.

With the all the success on offense he remained a punter averaging 41.0 yards per punt over his CFL career, including career high in the CFL with 43.9 average in 1952. He was also a DB in the CFL recording 4 INTs in 5 seasons. He also handled at least some placekicking duties with the Bombers in 1951-1952 going 34/40 on XPs and 2/3 on Fgs.
