As long as he doesn't play a game in the CHL, yes. I was hoping for this with the new AHL franchise and all.

You would think that the Kings would bring him in for a look at the Monarchs' camp.

I wonder if the Kings have enough contract space (total contracts overall) to sign him.

I can't find info on his KHL contract anywhere, but everyone seems to be assuming this is his last year there.

Not this year, his KHL season is already on. Otherwise I imagine he'd be at camp before a Reign assignment.

Whether or not he plays in CHL now is irrelevant. He could have played CHL this year then gone AHL next year at 19 (ignoring Russian contract status).

CHL-NHL agreement only applies to players draft out of CHL. Same with Cernak, he can play OHL this year and AHL next year at 19.

sorry for the bump, but l just posted a translated interview with Alexander

Have a good read!

Thank you very much!

Do you think that playing in the KHL is better to him than playing in the MHL? He doesn't get much icetime there, fourth line minutes.

Avg. ice-time 5:56, sft/g 8.8.

In the MHL he would play maybye 20+ minutes per game (and also got some SH- and PP-time).

I think it's better for a player like him. Players who are more finesse or small-sized usually are better off playing in junior leagues, but he's a big player who doesn't really play mostly a skill game like other Russian prospects, I think he's better off playing with the big guys, especially so in a team like SKA. He has the chance to play and practice side-to-side with great players.

I agree. I'd love to see him force his way into more playing time as the season goes on, and hope to see him in the AHL next year getting development team love here.

Maybe when Voynov makes it back from his injury he can give Dergachyov some pointers on the NHL? Voynov was heading to St. Petersburg right?

It's really disappointing that he is staying in Russia and only getting about 5 minutes of ice time per game.

Why kids sign contracts to stay in this BS league and play so little boggles my mind. It crushes the development for some of them. Have any of them actually taken a look at what the guys that are successful in the NHL did? (e.g. Voynov)

I am probably wrong, but Tarasenko is the only guy I can think of that stayed over there and is actually worth a ****.

Kuznetsov, Ovechkin, Malkin, Bobrovsky, Anismov, Kulemin and many others stayed over and Russia and found success. It can work, it just depends.

That's a list of high-end offensive talent, too (minus Bob, of course). Not saying that Dergachyov doesn't have skill but he certainly doesn't fit that list. If he can't get more playing time there, this may be almost a throwaway year. Can't wait to get him on a NA rink with our development team because he's not going to be able to do much 'grind' work in a league without much of it. I can certainly appreciate the creativity they like but Alex isn't going to get to practice much!

The only thing I can think of is not feeling ready to go across the world and living on your own/with strangers from a different culture.

Not trying to rationalize it, but I can imagine that being a huge decision at 18. That may not be the reason, either. That's just something I can imagine holding me back, all options being equal and available.

He is respecting his contract and thats fine; he ll be here next year.
And BTW to the poster who is complaining about staying in Russia; CHL is not a good place for Russians based on results we have seen.It s a place where russian top talents go to die.

Thanks, had no idea his minutes were that sheltered, good to know since 2 goals in 13 games all of a sudden doesn't seem so bad. Can't wait for him to come over to Ontario next year. We are thin on Centers and he would be perfect fit for Kings hockey.

I can imagine. Some people are never ready for that. It's probably good that Zykov seems comfortable and willing to mentor. And can't blame him for wanting to take his first pro step and make money in comfort close to home.

Since when?

Hopefully he comes over. For reference, here's his stat page.

I agree. Again, I'm not sure if that IS the deciding factor, but I know even in my 30s now, if I was told to go to Russia for a year and work hard enough for the chance to increase my earnings exponentially, get my own place and depend on one or two people to translate for me, I'd be scared ****less. I can only imagine how difficult of a decision that is for an 18 year-old.

Plus, we need to get him away from Ponikarovsky and Kovalchuk before they taint him with anti-Kings rhetoric :sarcasm:
