HF Habs: Draft Lottery tonight!! 7 p.m. ET. (MTL with #16 and #17!!)

Can always tank next year!
I mean, some would be mad and would want to trade everyone if that happen but it could very well happen, they just need an injury to a player like Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Hutson, Demidov with also the inexperience of the young players or rookies and they might draft around 5.

Tanking with our first line, Hutson and Guhle + Demidov is out of the cards for a very very long time.

They’re all very young, other than Suzuki or Caufield. Losing one to a serious injury and couple that with the inexperience of guys who’s gonna be in the lineup like Reinbacher, Beck, ect. A season where nothing’s working can still happen.

What we get at 16-17 between 2005 and 2016... As a rule, either the 16 or the 17 gives you one NHL player. Bolded is the NHL players. Sometimes the NHL player is drafted at 17, best player is on the left irrespective of number. Years 2012 and 2015 are monster years.

2005- Hanzal- Bourret

2006- Trevor Lewis- Wyshart

2007- Cherepanov (RIP)-Colton Gillies

2008- Jake Gardiner- Colborne

2009- Leddy- Rundblad

2010- Tarasenko- Hishon

2011- Armia- Nathan Beaulieu

2012- Tom Wilson- Tomas Hertl

2013- Zadorov – Lazar

2014-Sanheim-
Milano

2015-Kyle Connor-Mathew Barzal

2016- Chychrun-Kunin

Rebuild is over. These are transition years.

Who is that guy we can get that plays with us for 10 years? List names!

No way I say no to Crosby but that depends on the price. If they want a grade A like Reinbacher or Hage, I pass. The offers are more likely to be both our 1st rounders (16/17) and a prospect like Beck or Kapanen or Mailloux. Anything deeper than that, I pass. That's my line.

Crosby would fit this roster very well IMO. Imagine Demidov with Crosby bud? You don't think Crosby helps the development and leadership on our team? I'd rethink that one.

Horvat would be nice, maybe the go after an RFA like MacTavish? I don’t get paid the big bucks to make decisions , but Sids shelf life is minimum at this point. Great player? Yes. Do we deplete the farm to get him? Good god no

Don't deplete your farm for Sidney Crosby, but do on Mason MacTavish.

You do realize we get picks every year. We can trade a couple this year and still have good picks years coming up (or trade guys for picks at any point).

Trading Demidov for Crosby is dumb. Trading two first rounders in a meh draft really isn't.

I doubt we do offer sheets but you never know. I do like MacTavish a lot! I say we should do offer sheets later on in the process when we know our picks are 20+. We still have a few years of transition and monitoring our youth IMO.

You have to consider the NMC with Crosby and his age. I don't think the price is as high as you might think. Our 16th and 17th pick with a NHL piece like Dach and a prospect like Beck, Kapanen, Mailloux, Roy is something we can afford IMO. Does not deplete our farm at all. Reinbacher and Hage involved in trades? Hell no.

Crosby has a NMC and it won't be a bidding war if he and the Pens decide to part ways. No team is trading a Demidov piece for Crosby at his age anyways.

Two picks (16th and 17th), A NHL piece like Dach, and a prospect like Beck, Kapanen, Mailloux, or Roy is more than enough for Crosby at his age. I doubt any team is able to go deeper than this and if they are a contender, they likely don't have the futures like the Habs have as well.

What can the Avs offer for Crosby?

The only way Crosby gets moved is if he asks to be. He'll only ask for Colorado or us, if he ever does at all. The price for either us or Colorado will be a lot less than people expect because he's only gonna waive for that specific team and if you're smart and want McKenna/DuPont then Crosby has gotta go. I do think Pittsburgh wants to blow it up but you can't with Crosby and Malkin there.

The only question is does Crosby wanna move. I don't think he does, but we can always hope.

I completely agree with you. I just don't understand why people saying that doing this would be dumb or that we'd be depleting anything.

Would you really as a fan want to see Logan Mailloux attempt to figure out being an NHL D for the next 3-5 years or see Sidney Freaking Crosby, a top 5 player of ALL TIME (yes of all time, don't @ me anyone) play for your team for the next 2-3 years and try to win us a cup.

If Owen Beck turns into a 60pt, 2 way player ala Phillip Danault I am not going to care one iota if we trade him for Crosby. You're never going to hear me complain.

"BUT HE'S OLD. HE'S GOING TO SLOW DOWN" He's literally been a 90+ point player in his 36, 37 and 38 year old seasons. That's more than Nick.

Even Crosby getting 80 points, 70, hell, even 60 (which is pretty good 2nd line C production.. and he'd have to fall off insanely hard to go from 90 - 60, something I just don't see given his work ethic) is worth trading for him.

No one here can convince me this isn't a good idea.

We are on the exact same page. Crosby would fit this team like a glove! Helps us in our transition years and his habits wear off on our young players. Shows up every shift

Crosby would no doubt put up 80+ pts on this roster and I think he increases his points from what we have seen on the Pens in the last few years. He would have more to work with and not coming to the Habs on a island by himself. Just imagine Demidov with Crosby. WOW!

Yeah, I agree... good luck moving us off the Crosby train (if available).

Sounds like the same things the Blackhawks fans said about P Kane... before he was traded. I don't think Crosby finishes that contract with the Pens. Both Crosby and the Pens will come to grips with that but not sure when. Pens need a rebuild and Crosby is far to competitive to just stay on a struggling team. Maybe Dubas gets one more chance to improve the team this summer and the tipping point is 2026 TDL.

Not many talking about this but maybe we should just stay put and see where we are at the 2026 TDL. This allows us to see how we do next year and also see what other options become available.

It is interesting because it's not just Habs fans talking about Crosby with the Habs. Other fans, media members, and former players are also chit chatting about this too.

Just use the picks. Teams remain competitive thanks to a constant input of prospects entering ecl contracts. Otherwise those teams just fade out like Tampa and Colorado

Only 3 players in Colorado are picks by the team, ZERO since Makar 😲
I'd very much like them to follow Colorado and Tampa. Don't listen to this guy hockey gods.

Is 2015 the year where Bruins have 3 consecutive picks, something like 13-14-15 ? And they managed to miss Connor and Barzal at 16-17 ? Woww

+ Chabot.

Habs had also opportunities to draft Knies instead of Mailloux, Luneau instead of Mesar, and Cuylle….

Well sure winning a cup and being a top team is a dream but let's not disregard the lessons from them fading out prematurely. Colorado in particular haven't looked like a cup contenting threat in a long while.

Learn from them to be even better and enjoy a longer cup window

… and Demidov who should had been taken by Chicago.
And many teams passed on Caufield and Guhle.

I can't wait to see what HuGo do with all our 1sts, 2nds, and 3rds in this year's draft...

Feels like such a long wait, lol
