HF Habs: Draft Lottery tonight!! 7 p.m. ET. (MTL with #16 and #17!!)

A really quick mock.

1. NYI: Misa
2. SJS: Schaefer
3. CHI: Martone
4. Utah: Frondell
5. Nashville: Desnoyers
6. Philadelphia: Hagens
7. Boston: O'Brien
8. Seattle: Mrtka
9. Buffalo: Martin
10. Anaheim: Bear
11. Pittsburgh: Smith
12. NYR: McQueen
13. Detroit: Eklund
14. Columbus: Ravensbergen
15. Vancouver: Cootes
16. Montreal: Lakovic
Damn i havent followed the draft AT ALL this year for the first time since 2020, did Hagens really fall off this hard ? Did Misa really finish this hard ?

From my perspective we’ve identified the core players ( Suzuki Caufield Slafkovsky Demidov Hutson Guhle Reinbacher)

Now we need to surround them with role players. I’m talking about gritty playoff players.

I’m open to trading all our draft picks.
Suzuki, Demidov Hutson and Guhle (Maybe Reinbacher) are the only core players. Caufield and Slaf are role players, great players but theyre not part of the core, theyre just not good enough. You wouldn't hear anyone call Knies or Ehlers core players.

Yup! Dude, Misa finished with 134 pts in only 65 games. 2 pts/game. 62 goals. He played center all year & played a hard two-way game on top of his offensive out-burst.

Hagens was up & down. He finished with 37 pts in 37 games, including 11 goals. He eventually got reduced to 2nd line duties behind the Leonard-Perreault duo because he often turned the puck over. He struggled a bit at NCAA level. He's been down graded & may not go top 5. He's become soft & pass heavy. As a u18, he was far more net driven.

For the fun of it......This is what the Pens could do:

They have already picks 11th and 12th (Rangers)

I mean the Rangers have the choice to let the Pens pick 12th otherwise they will get their 2026 first pick unprotected.

So let's say 11th and 12th for the Pens..

Then.

Trade Crosby to Mtl and part of that deal would include 16th and 17th overall...

Can you imagine the possibilities for their rebuilt with 11th 12th 16th and 17th

Might be the step that took away the skating edge he had in the prior years.

Crazy about Misa. I always liked his game but I didn't know he went this ham lol. I might have to catch a game or two.

Im not giving two first rounders to Pittsburgh for Crosby. They can ask Colorado for two firsts.

They have no picks in the first three rounds of the next two drafts, we don't need to give two firsts.

I absolutely love that SJ and CHI didn't win the lottery. So awesome. NYI still takes Schafer I think, no way they'll pass on a defenceman of that calibre considering the age of their D-core, he'd have the perfect situation to come up in.

the question is not me you or Mtl would do it but if the Pens would do it

He kept a 1st OA and a 5th OA respectively… not exactly the same thing

It will be incredibly stupid to draft players with these picks in a year where you can make moves that will make you competitive for the next few years.

Again, I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade one of them.

The firsts are not the only assets they have and they aren't necessarily needed.

That's crazy that both #10 and #14 spots moved up. Why the f*** doesn't this ever happen for Montreal?!
If we lost the last game of the season in regulation we'd be drafting 4th OA. Canucks would be ahead of us, Columbus makes the playoffs, and we would be 14th spot. Schaefer/Misa/Hagens/Martone vs playoff experience.

EDIT: We would be in the 13th spot

In that case Montreal and Utah would be tied with points with 89. But since Montreal would have lost in regulation they would have 29 regulation wins and Utah would have 30.

In that case the pre-draft lottery order would have been:

13: Montreal
14: Utah
15: Vancouver
16: Calgary

So, in that scenario, with the lottery results being the same, Utah still wins the 2nd draw and picks 4th.

Ah yeah my bad, I thought we had 31 RW for some reason.

Please god no, a 38 yr old Crosby , tying up 8.5 and we are rebuilding. Enough stop gaps, get guys who can play another 10 years.

I just realized heading into the 4 nations we had the 1OA pick and we played out of it.

We could have had Schaffer by staying 10th to last

😆 🤣

My life depended on these for the last three years, this year, not so much
I was thinking the same. I completely forgot this was happening that until I started work and thought to myself how nice it is not having to sweat it.

Turns out to have been a great year too because I'd have probably broken my TV if we dropped twice to teams from deep in the lottery.

The issue for me is not the AAV of $8.7M. Two years is not "tying up". We did the exact same for Patrik Laine.

My problem is giving up both first round picks for a single two year rental.

Bring down the acquisition cost and we can talk.

And what about Justin Carbonneau? What's your ranking for him?

Time to use those two mid-first round picks in a trade, but not for Sid. I love Crosby, but we need longer-term signings.
Crosby is barely slowing down..........he could get another 2-3 yr deal after his current.
The guy is simply amazing. Most forwards are done around 32-35 but this guy is simply still one of the best in the league.
Big game player also.............the only way he sees the playoffs again is to leave the Pens.

You're 100% right. I'm a huge Crosby fan and, honestly, would be thrilled to see him in a Habs jersey. But... while I wouldn't complain about two seasons of Sid, I'd rather invest longer term. My concern is Crosby's career would be ending just before our team's window begins.

As long as they don’t do like Boston did ten years ago. 3 consecutive picks in the first…Man did they blow it haha
