Man did I hate those Islander teams. I came to appreciate them later in life, but living in NJ as a Bruins fan before the Devils, Islanders fans were everywhere. That 1983 series made me cry
How could you hate those Islanders teams ~ they were the best combination of skill and toughness ever assembled

Incredible they added Pat LaFontaine and never won

Also Bryan Trottier one of the most complete centers in history as a checking center on the Lemieux/Jagr Penguins always blows my mind

Now that we’re at 4. I would feel just as lucky if we didn’t move back a spot or two due to the lottery than if we won 1st or 2nd.

The style of the lottery is interesting in that there’s a lot of anti tanking measures like that, but in practice it seems it just causes the teams at the very bottom to tank even harder haha.

It isn't very often that there is a McDavid in the draft, so a top 3-5 pick is always going to be a great one and you don't feel like you lost out. With teams only allowed to drop 2 slots, yeah, very bottom end tanks seem worth it.

They were amazing

Only recently am I willing to say Pastrnak is better then vintage Middleton

No disrespect to Pastrnak but if 1978-85 Middleton is playing against Blues instead of Pastrnak, Bruins win Cup

They had some great teams.
Their goaltending with Smith and defence with Persson/Langevin/Potvin and Morrow was very under rated.
Nystrom and Gillies could fight and had skill.

Bossy only played ten years but his goal scoring stats are incredible. Only when hobbled by injuries in his last year, did his stats sufffer . I would take prime Bossy over prime Ovechkin any day .

The one i don’t want them to pick is McQueen! 6,5 18 yo and only 1 pts per game in junior major League…..
Bruins need pure offensive Skill not another Third liner
Never seen the kid play but a back injury that keeps a kid out the majority of a season is worrisome

If season ends today and the lottery is precisely what the standings are today, have to wonder what each team is looking to draft, San Jose likely needs everything but I suspect no way they don`t take Schaeffer, no clue what the Hawks and Preds will do though

Lets be real. We end up in the top 3 and Sweeney will take the 6'5" McQueen kid which he could get at 7-8. All because he's 6'5".
McQueen worries me, watched lots of tape on him....he skating is not at the NHL level yet.
He reminds me of Brazeau.
If we fall into 4-6 spot, I will be happy with one of Frondell/Martone or Eklund.

19 playoff series wins in a row doesn't get talked about enough. In a 32 team league with a salary cap, that's a record that will never be broken IMO. Heck, it will likely stand the test of time in NA pro sports, not just hockey.

Not sure if your parents let you stay up late for this or you could get this but Gillies and Terry O’Reilly (he was a psycho fighter) had epic fights

Saw a few at the time. Youtube is great for those

First overall next year would be better.
You’re right but this years top 4-5 picks are pretty nice. So I’m not going to worry about next year. Next year this teams significantly better out the gate because of the defence alone. Plus I imagine some of the younger players might take a step. We will see. But for now I wouldn’t be counting on getting the #1 next year. They would be lucky to get 1 or 2 this year.

Yeah, I don't see them in the mix for 1 overall next year at all. They'll have a healthy squad (well, what's left of it) and around $28M in the offseason to work with.

Unfortunately, Gillies, who was a monster fighter, had Terry's number most of the time. Terry had to go full Taz mode (even kicking!) just to hang in there with the big guy. I remember them fighting 4 times in the playoffs in 1980. Terry was getting his brains beat in, but he never backed down, not even once.
