I have watched him play around 10 games this year. Not a great skater, not really a play driver from what I’ve seen but just my opinion. To me he’s been letting the guys on his line do most of the work with the puck and his role has been more of a facilitator with the play going through him instead of him making plays. I haven’t seen a ton of footage on him so I could be wrong. Production dropped off a little bit second half of year and looked a step or two behind at wjc.
His skating is fine.
Bigger players ( he is 6ft 3) will not look as fast as smaller players.
Does he have Eklund break away speed, no.
He is not Dave Andreychuk or Justin Brazeau slow.
His stickhandling, shot, hockey IQ and passing are excellent.
I would rate his " pace", defensive game and overall skating ability as average.
Kid is a great prospect and deserves to be drafted in the top 5.
His leadership qualities are A1.
He has 96 goals in 195 games played, he can score.
If you think you can improve his skills on the above, you take him, no question.
