Wait you guys want to trade Kreider now?

I'm kidding, just seems like I've been suggesting that forever

I’d like to take at least one D man in the first two rounds

Whether it be Seider, Heinola, York, etc

But skew more forwards. Getting Newhook would be great

Eh, I can't say I've ever been wowed by Seider myself.

I also feel like every RHD age 25 and under is now on our radar.

True, I actually think a highly-skilled LHD, with a different skill set from Miller and Hajek is more of a need than an RHD right now. So, in that regard, who do you like better- Broberg or York?

In my case, I don’t want to trade Kreider, I just believe it’s inevitable.

Point taken, my thoughts have always been, I'm dubious about his next contract, clause too, I assume he is not extending with any other team yet will test UFA, so I've always seen him as a rental sale in his last contract year if not worse, a self rent and lose or overpay to keep. Trying to use that eventual rental return quicker, and maybe even get better value back beforehand was always my angle even before they moved up to pick #2.

interesting that we want size and toughness on the right to complement the skill guys and want a high skill guy on the left to complement the size and toughness.

I have them neck and neck. Broberg is 12 on my list, York 13.

That’s more my take...I want a more well-rounded defensive corps.

i'm on the same page...i want a well rounded team that compliments each other...having all players that play the same style never works

Care to share your impressions of both?

Broberg: I love the offensive tools, the skating and the willingness to gamble a little. He's often still on the raw side, as he tries to figure out which pieces go where and when they should go there, but IMO he's the second best defenseman in the draft behind Byram. Still has some work to do on picking his spots and his transition game isn't polished, but the potential is there for a top pairing defenseman.

York: Great vision, moves the puck exceptionally well, makes smart decisions on offense. Not necessarily a natural shooter, and I think his offensive game is going to lean heavy on the assists and playmaking. Good skater who is more mobile and agile than he is straight ahead fast. He's undersized so his ability to handle bigger/stronger competition will be something to keep an eye on. Not quite as likely to be a top pair defenseman as Broberg, but has a shot to post slightly higher offensive numbers.

So, coming away with a franchise winger, a 1B center and a potential top-pairing Dman would be an ‘pretty good ‘ draft then?

I kind of expect one of the LD prospects they already have to eventually round out to be skilled enough that I'd have the LD prospects available this draft behind the forwards from a Rangers prospect pool perspective.

I’m fully on board with accumulating depth. But, the idea that trading from that depth means you’re giving up on a player doesn’t fly with me.

Yes, that would be considered an A+ first round IMO.

We need one more piece/pick in the mid-range to make it work though.

Kreider to AZ for 14thOA and a conditional 2nd next year that becomes a 1st if he re-signs. Use both 2nds to move up from 20. Draft both Newhook and Broberg. Voila!

Watch Podkolzin still be there at pick 20.
That would not be awful. It appears that after taking Kakko, the Rangers may well have a much deeper roster of young forward prospects. That may well enable Gorton to wait until Podkolzin arrives. But I believe he will be gone before then. Dorofeyev should be available however.

Having said that, if Newhook is there at 15 or 16, I’d pick up the phone and inquire.
Which is what I bet Gorton will do. The question will be what is the price? Kreider for the 16th? That was a bit painful to type.
