I said earlier doing my mock I realized how long the wait will be from pick 9 to pick 26. Our fans are going to go out of their minds if we don't trade into the teens when names start dropping off the board to teams named Icelanders(twice!), cryers(twice!), satans, Jaquets, Kangs, Lafs....

You think they take Farabee if Wahlstrom is off the board?
I think so, yeah. He committed to Quinn at BU, I don't think he has a whole lot of weaknesses, I don't really think he is too much of a reach either. I'd be bummed if he wound up at one of the other Metro teams in the top 15. I've been pretty high on Farabee most of the process. Don't see why not.

Doesn’t it depend on who Colorado likes though? Perhaps they can get Hughes or Dobson at 6-7 and decide that money in hand is better than the what if of tomorrow? Because that potential pick could also be later than that as well.

It could but it's worth taking a chance. I do see your point.

I have a hard time figuring on Boqvist.

Talent wise I think he’s top 4 in this draft. But I’m not sure if it’s concussion concerns, timeline, a preference for other prospects, some uneven play, or what percentage of each that has him (seemingly) falling.

The kid is a legit first pairing, number one defenseman prospect. I don’t find his question marks to be more noticeable than Hughes, and I find his upside and ability to change the course of a game to be higher than Dobson or Bouchard.

If healthy, he is at least the defensive equivalent of Wahlstrom.

Well fortunately, it could very well shake out that either he or Wahstrom is on the board for us. With Kotkaniemi's late charge and Dobson's continued rise, some kids have to slide a bit...and while quite a bit can still happen before we pick on Friday, it does seem like we could stay at 9 and get a great prospect.

I’d take Farabee. Not sure what the Rangers would do.

Interesting. So is Montreal crazy if they take Kotkaniemi at 3.

And how annoying is it that both the Isles and Flyers also have multiple 1st round picks? Islanders could very well end up with Farabee and Bouchard or Veleno.

I think we’d have to trade up to grab Kravtsov. I think Merkley might still be hanging around in the late 1st/early 2nd.

Agreed. Seems like you might need to get into the top 20 to grab Kravtsov. Merkely could go at 20 or as late as early 30s.

Peters at ESPN has us drafting Boqvist, Bokk and Dellandrea. I don't get the sense that he is using sources on this from reading what he wrote.
If all goes well with Boqvist when do you feel he would be ready to join the Rangers? AHL?

If Wahlstrom & Boqvist are available at 9 who do you guys hope we take?
Wahlstrom right now ... Boqvist for sure pre concussion (BPA plus RHD perfect Aligning of what we need). I know some may disagree but just reality.

Consensus opinion says that they aren’t.

I do feel there’s a bit of propping up now that he’s seen as being a real possibility to go third. There’s really nothing “new” out there that wasn’t there two or three weeks ago.

Third best prospect in the draft? Probably not.

But he is a ugh quality prospect and if Montreal thinks he’s a first line center, that’s really all the justification they need. They’re in the business of getting the guy they want, not following outside rankings.

Since Svechnikov is going to be way out of reach I really want Tkachuk but we're going to end up with soft coconut Boqvist.
Book it :sarcasm:

Both? Seriously, if that happens see what it will take to get 10OA from EDM. In all likelihood only one will be available, so the choice might not be ours. But if by some chance they are both on the board, that's a great problem to have choosing between them.

Personally I'm torn. I've watched a number of videos on Wahlstrom lately and man can that kid pick a spot. He can find the net from any angle. But then I started reading more on Boqvist and how can you not be salivating over this:

Boqvist is as good a playmaker as he is a shooter. He is equally dangerous in both offensive aspects. He can score from anywhere on the ice. If he doesn’t have the shooting lane, he can complete almost any pass. It’s usually the right pass and on the tape. He does all of this at a high rate of speed as he is a dynamic skater. Need an example of how offensively gifted he is? When his team needed a shootout goal, he was called upon to deliver and usually did.

Like I said, a good problem to have!

I think the Rangers top targets are:

1. Brady Tkachuk
1A. Quinn Hughes

I have this feeling they are going to try to move up 3 or 4 spots from the 9 to get one or the other and their first choice is Tkachuk. If they're not able to move up they will sit on their 9 and take whoever is available knowing that they're still going to get someone really good. Their move then will be to move up from the 26OA. None of that though is rocket science. It never hurts to ask and that's how trades start.

There is a caveat to the above however that might depend on current NHL players available and what cost---perhaps Erik Karlsson for one.

Gotcha. I sure hope he's there guy, since we really need that to happen to greatly improve the odds we can get Wahlstrom or Boqvist. If Montreal takes Zadina we could definitely be looking at Bouchard or Farabee at 9. Not that those guys are bums, but it does seem like they might be in the next tier, at least as of today.

Seems like they could move up two or three spots to 6 or 7 to land one of those two, particularly if the rumors are true about Montreal going with Kotkaniemi. Should cost a good bit less too.

With rumors now that even Zadina could fall to us, there’s a decent chance that anyone outside of Dahlin and Svechnikov could be available at #9. Curious how people rank their top 10 (seems to be where it drops off) in terms of what they’re hoping for from the rangers perspective. My list:

Dahlin
Svechnikov
Zadina
Hughes
Boqvist
Wahlstrom
Dobson
Tkachuk
Bouchard
Kotkaniemi
