Draft and UDFA Thread 2017-18

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

Playing along, you could do 26 and 28 for 16.

And 9 and 70 for 7 or if they feel the need to secure someone they like.

You'd have 7, 16, 39, 48, 88

That has the makings of a nice days work.

Only problem with the above scenario is that it requires the Rangers trading for 16 prior to the draft, so that they then have it available to swap for 10. Most draft pick swaps happen only when the teams know who'll be available at the highest pick.

Correct. For the purposes of playing along, the Rangers would have to be heading into the draft with the 16th pick in-hand, kind of like the Stepan deal.

Yeah and draft picks for draft picks trades usually happen on the floor.

They'd have to pull something off before the whole thing starts and then again as they approach or get to #10

I'm ok with that. The farm needs quality. Gorton did a good job of acquiring and drafting a supporting cast over the past year and a half. Time to draft some top end players now.

The Rangers farm needs quality AND quantity, frankly. The cupboard was very bare.

I do agree, especially given the crapshoot nature of even the first round of the NHL draft, that targeting players you feel very, very good about could be smart for the Rangers, since they have been desperately in need of top line difference makers, especially centers, for like forever.

And their success at the trade deadline getting guys like Howden, Hajek, Rykov and Lindgren helps, as does the apparently hit on their two firsts last year in Chytil and Andersson (though obviously nothing is set in stone for any of these guys yet, but it seems like they have all gotten over the hump from "hopeful" to "projected" NHLers).

But they could still use 5-6 more top prospects to restock the system fully. I don't want all those early picks to be liquidated into just 2-3 players.

I've been out of the loop for a couple days. Did consensus opinion become that Kotkaniemi is going three? When did that happen, is there a source? We think Zadina is slipping?

Music to my ears because even though I just posted that the Rangers need both quantity and quality, I definitely trade up if Zadina slips.

Mckenzie discussed it yesterday on the bob cast.

We've known that MTL is high on Kotkaniemi for a while now though. Whether or not they try and trade back or just get their guy at #3 is the question.

I'm really hyped that Kotkaniemi and Dobson are Rising this hard because of recency bias (and position), starting to look like we're actually going to have Boqvist and maybe one of Bouchard/Hughes/Wahlstrom to pick from at 9.

How?

Lias is more of a shooter; Tkachuk is a dangerous setup man.

Lias is of average height and size; Tkachuk is large.

Lias is an average skater; Tkachuk’s skating is a big plus, especially for his size.

I love Lias, but Tkachuk is a step above him IMO. The only similarities they share are that they’re both natural leaders who play with a lot of aggressiveness and physicality. But you might as well be comparing Chris Drury to Ryan Getzlaf (strictly in terms of play style).

I think its extremely optimistic to compare Tkachuk to Getzlaf, not to mention the position difference.

Brady T. has climbed recently, any reason for that concerning the ranking table?

We need a talented wing who can finish plays! ;)

He's not that.

The intangible guys often move up towards the end of the ranking period. Less time to watch their play, so their "off-ice" game gets factored in more.
