Since we went way way over 1000 yesterday here's the new thread.

Corey Schneider is the latest victim to the buyout plague going around.

Put that in there with Malcolm Subban not getting a QO in the "not really useful news about available goaltending" file.
I hear Scott Darling and Justin Peters don't have NHL contracts right now. Also former AHL MVP goalie Garret Sparks wasn't extended!

So yeah, I think the Canes had a very good draft. I'm not going to put grades on these individual picks, as it's absurd to do it this early to 18 year olds, however, I liked that they mixed scouting picks with consensus picks at the same time. I think that everybody focuses on Tulsky's role and not enough credit goes to Darren Yorke and his team actually evaluating these folks and their tape before picking. I wouldn't have been able to find guys from prep school like Foegele or Cotton as an armchair dude just reading spreadsheets, and I have lots of trust that they know their stuff on guys I'm not as familiar with, like Mercuri and Nikishin. The 7th round swing on Pashin goes without saying, and you can look at my comments on the other thread if you want to hear my take on it. I'm not too sad about the lack of RHD and goaltending in this crop, because the pool this year on that front was shallow IMO. Waiting until 2021 to load up on D is a deft move.

Sounds like Crawford will hit the market. I know some are interested in him, though I'm not particularly.

I think we have a great situation to try Crawford. If he gets hurt, run Mrazek/Ned for a while until Crawford comes back. But Crawford when healthy is still very good, he was good behind a pretty bad defense, and his HDSV% was 4th in the NHL last year (Allen, Binnington, Rask, Crawford, Merzilkins)

They can keep a platoon during what should be a compacted schedule, and still have a pretty fresh Crawford for the playoffs.

I wouldn't be furious, but I don't really want a one year stopgap. I also don't want a tandem that makes it super likely we have to play Ned, who I have zero confidence in. One guy is old with injury concerns and I feel like Mrazek is usually going to miss several games. It's just not my preferred scenario.

Doubt we're getting Markstrom so Crawford would be my other preferred FA especially since he's not going to command a lot of money or a long term deal. There's still always a chance for a trade but even realistic trade options aren't too great either.

I’d rather just run with what we got than bring in Crawford.
I still view Crawford as an upgrade over both Mrazek and Reimer. He has put up better numbers than both behind pretty bad defenses. But yeah, if we decide to keep both Mrazek and Reimer I can't complain too much. There aren't really any enticing options other than Markstrom who we'll never pay even if he wanted to come here.

Crawford is probably #3 on my wish list for our goalie situation next year.

1 - Kuemper or Raanta
2 - Demko
3 - Crawford

Anything else just stick with what we have, and if are actually considering Holtby JUST STICK WITH WHAT WE HAVE

Are you considering Markstrom likely to stay, or Markstrom to be too expensive if he hits the market?

Other than look at Markstrom, I think I'm on board with all of this. I'd probably add Dobby as a #4 but I understand that one might not be seen as more than goalie roulette.

I doubt it CBJ trade in division, but what about Korpisalo or Merlikins?
I'd be good with either but as you said in division trades are tough especially for goalies.

I'm considering Markstrom as not being interested in us given his "A market" comments. We'd have a tough time affording him anyhow.

Agree here excluding Crawford. Kuemper or Raanta for a trade centered around Reimer could be very possible given how soft the goalie trade market looks to be

Pretty much my thoughts, though I'm not sold on Raanta really. If we can't get Kuemper, Demko/Markstrom, or Crawford (1-2 yr deal), just hold pat and maybe something shakes loose in the next year or so

I find the Demko love interesting considering all he's proven at the NHL level were a few good games against Vegas. He didn't exactly set the world on fire this year. He has some potential obviously, but I don't think it'd be a glowing endorsement if Vancouver moved on from him.

I also am in the minority that I think Andersen or Holtby would do just fine here. Whether they're worth getting over what we have? Shrug. I do wish Arizona was being a little more realistic in their asking price for Kuemper. I don't think he's worth spending a 1st on, but even he has massive question marks around him.

I think we killed it in the draft again. I know that prospects are basically a lottery ticket, and who knows how they end up, but I think we've put ourselves in a better position to capitalize on our selections over the last two years than any other team in the league. If any of these guys hit, we probably have our top 2 lines taken care of for the long haul and we're just looking to reload on depth annually going forward. Not a bad position to be in.

Demko is more a matter that the guy is a legit blue chip goalie prospect and has put up high end numbers at every level so far when given a shot. I don't even take this playoff into consideration, his play with BC and then as a 22yo in Utica was more than enough to sell me on him.

I don't think Andersen would be bad here, I just don't think we could afford him this year cap wise, and definitely have less than zero interest in giving up anything remotely close to what Toronto wants for him.

Holtby... Agree to disagree. He's probably fine with say the Isles or Dallas, but he'd be hot mess here imo.
