Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

I've spent the past two weeks trying to manipulate myself into believing it was actually fine that they fell to 9th instead of settling into 4th or 5th, now I have a month to convince myself that 11th overall doesn't absolutely suck shit.
Look on the bright side, the last time we picked top 8 we took Pouliot.

Maybe dropping back two slots prevents the Pens from talking themselves into something stupid.

In the end it's whatever. We won't know how we did for like four years

If possible we should try and move up. I'd rather get ONE difference maker than two fairly solid players. Don't know if someone would trade with us. I'd be thrilled to get 7th or 8th. Depending on the cost.

I'd be talking to Seattle. I still believe they will take a dman and I'm not sure there's a tremendous difference between Mrtka, Smith, and Aitcheson. It's a pick your poison thing. It's quite likely 2 of the 3 will be there so I propose (IF NYR give us 12):

12+63 to Montreal for 15+41.
11+41 to Seattle for 8ov

Take Jack O'Brien then draft again at 41 and hope McKinney falls.

ETA: IF Martone is there, I dangle him in front of Buffalo for their #39

We're getting into sloppy 11ths.

No way Eklunds dropping that far. I can see Mrtka though.

I'm actually the opposite, I can't see Mrtka getting beyond Buffalo while I'm not sure who I see will take Eklund before the Penguins.

Eklund is hurt by being an undersized winger around a bunch of bigger and more physical players. I can easily see him sliding as guys like Martin, Mrtka and McQueen go above him due to size and physicality.

I'd be all for doing what I could to get JOB. at 15th I'd be thrilled with Reschny or Kindel, those guys have mad skill!

Think his recent injury potentially keeps teams away? Apparently not too serious, however, injuries can spook teams away.

Are you referring to the skate cut? That was his brother, not him.

Eklund, unless you overlooked him by accident.

Aitcheson with the Rangers pick if they kick it over.

Aitcheson vs Smith for the #12 pick is a fascinating debate to have IMO.

Unless it’s for a top 4 pick I’d prefer 2 shots at nailing the 1st round pick. 50% hit rate would be a great outcome in this spot. I wouldn’t be opposed to trading back if there was interest. I think the Pens are still in the quantity over quality stage of building our prospect pool, especially considering the talent in this draft.

How is that your conclusion here? Had the Penguins gotten another 3 points this year, they would have won the draft lottery.

If you're using the draft lottery as an argument, you should be arguing that they should have won a few more games so they would have won the lottery.
My thoughts exactly. 10th overall was the real 1st overall. Sid knew and tried his best, just didn't work out.

10 picks this draft, 11 if the Rangers hand over their 1st. With 5 potentially 6 of them in the first 3 rounds will make the draft entertaining for the first time in a long time.

I think whether I trade back or not depends entirely on how the draft shakes out. I would guess I keep the Penguins 1st but look to trade down with the Rangers 1st, but that changes depending on who is available with those picks. If I can get 2 of Martin, Eklund and Mrtka with those picks, I'm not trading down.

My current guess for the top-12 is:

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Frondell (I've read reports that Chicago loves Frondell)
4. Desnoyers
5. Hagens
6. Martone
7. Martin
8. O'Brien
9. Mrtka
10. McQueen
11. Eklund
12. Smith

So that leaves the Penguins with Eklund and Smith out of this draft. I'm not trading down with Eklund but I would at least consider it with Smith on the board at #12.

I'd go for the quality over quantity. We need a cornerstone piece if possible. At a minimum a fixture and key contributor in the top six.
