Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

I'm not a fan of Martin myself. I am skeptical on any extremely physical player with average physical tools. Aitcheson being the other. But if they are presumably drafting #9/11, who do you want them to take?

This draft is disappointing but if we get the Rags pick, I’d like to see them try to package both picks to move up to select a better player who likely will be gone by #9…

Trading up with the Rangers pick is actually an interesting discussion, I don't think you could go up too much higher but would it cost that much to move from #11 to #7? Maybe throw one one of their 2026 2nds to move up a couple of spots to get O'Brien or Frondell in addition to Eklund?

Does Martin remind anyone else of Mike Richards? I see it, but maybe that's the physicality in both their games and being roughly the same size.

I go back and forth. I was worried about his heaviness on his feet and skating but man it looks completely fine if not good at the U18. Has really warmed me up.

I will say I love the way he f***ing kills people. Just absolutely demoralizing body checks. So that may be (totally is) clouding my judgement. I love a truly physical power forward. There’s only like 5 of em left.

Will say this about tools— He does have good hands (the most completed dekes in the OHL this year) and a very heavy shot imo. @lokomotiv15 has fairly criticized his efficiency in skill chaining though.

I would be fine with him at 9 given lack of real alternatives for me to pound the table for. I do think the floor is pretty low. But he’s got upside IMO.

I wish this held true... I would be doing O'Brien and Bear.

McKensie, Button, THN, McKeen, Peter's and Daily Faceoff
Consolidated rankings is...

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Hagens
4. Martone
5. Frondell
6. McQueen
7. Eklund
8. Desnoyers
9. Smith
10. Spence
11. Mrtka
12. O'Brien
13. Bear
14. Lakovic
15. Carbonneau
16. Hensler
17. Reid
18. Kindel
19. Martin
20. Potter
Wow, Malcolm Spence climbing those ranks late in the year is surprising. Especially over Mrtka and JOB.

Still Bear is a tremendous talent but that injury is just way too scary. If JOB is available, I think we take him. With the Ranger's 1st at 11-13th, Kindel would be a'okay by me but I would also be having deep discussions on Lakovic and Martin. The ability to grab TWO decent center prospects in this draft is just too enticing to pass up.

picking Mrtka 9th & McQueen 11th would have this place in complete meltdown. Would be glorious.
Even better would be watching them become the next Tage Thompson and Zdeno Chara and then watching the naysayers bite their cheeks every game.

I think the move there would be with Seattle. They are likely to get 6/7 or possibly 8. I think their system needs a dman most of all so you may be able to entice them with moving back to take Mrtka or Smith while gaining an extra pick. Problem I might see there is the late Washington 2nd may not appeal much to them and I don't see many trades where the additional pick goes to the next year. Not having our own 2nd this year really hurts if that's the goal.

Maybe the Was 2nd + Pens 3rd+4th to move that 2nd up to somewhere around 40-45, then 9ov+40ov for 7ov. Something like that?

I'm not as scared about Bear's injury, especially if the team takes O'Brien with #9.

This team needs centers badly, but Carter is also a good LW if not a center at worst. Both come with some size and will need to grow into their frames.

I'm not reaching that far for Martin/Kindel. That has Pouliot vibes.

Unless they win the lottery, I'd be surprised if the Rangers didn't put the pick off until next year. In their minds, Sully's going to take them to the promised land, so why give up #11 when they could give up #32?

I doubt we get the Rangers pick to trade up with.

Yeah, I feel like they will try and move the #11 to make an upgrade and then go all in for next year. Would be pretty cool if Sullivan immediately asks Drury to acquire Rust or Rakell and the Pens get the Rags picks in 25 and 26

Who's the NHL comparable to Martin? Bennett? He was a complete bust for CGY and took years to develop into more than a depth player. And I don't even view him as a power forward now either. I don't understand the hype for Martin from the U-18s except it must be for his physicality. Cam Robinson just said this morning how it is the first U-18s where nobody in the current draft class looks like a top 10 pick. Stenberg has been the most dominant forward and Cootes has been better than Martin so not sure why Martin is getting so much attention.
