Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Martone
4. Hagens
5. McQueen (would be #2 or #3 if he was healthy all year)
6. Smith
7. Eklund
8. Bear
9. Desnoyers
10. O'Brien
11. Lakovic
12. Frondell
13. Carbonneau (9-13 are all on the same level and they debated how to order it)
14. Mrtka
15. Hensler
I keep telling you guys, as much as we want to shy away from him (for good reasons), this dude is climbing the ranks. Every single podcast, list, or video I've watched with recent commentary has him in that 5/6/7 rank. I think he's our key to getting Desnoyers/JOB/Frondell. Better if someone like Seattle wants defense and goes Smith/Mrtka.

Yeah and there is always a team that will throw a wrench into it. Someone is going to really reach for a defenseman.
Yeah, the last 2-3 years should remind everyone that any given NHL team's ranking could be A LOT different than ours. Sennecke being a prime example from last year. Seattle taking Smith or Mrtka would be a "non-surprising surprise". That's good for us though.

Which is why I am not too concerned drafting 9th over 7th etc. Yeah a center would be nice, but draft BPA and dont get stupid. Chances are a "center" at 6-10 moves to wing anyways.

After 4, you have 5 through 10-12 that are all about equal so...pick your poison.
I'm not a big Frondell guy either, although I think he'll be gone before we'd pick.

I've maintained the same position here. If we could get Desnoyer, Eklund or JOB I'd be thrilled!

If not any of them beyond the obvious top guys I like Martin, Reschny and Kindel in that order. Reschny is killing it in the post season. He's like a left handed Brayden Point. So smoooooooth, soooooo fluid! YES!

Agreed. I imagine they go JOB first, Desnoyers 2nd, Eklund 3rd if all three happen to be there. Reschny would be a good option with the Rags pick if they hand it over.

I'm rooting very much for Seattle to take a defensemen, would warm my heart.

If we get to pick twice though, I want at least one center outta of those two picks.

Case in point: if we get Eklund I'd want Martin most likely, if we get JOB I'd be happy with Martin or Reshny.

In my mock-draft in the previous thread, I had them taking Eklund with a note that said I could see them taking Smith or Mrtka due to the lack of quality defensive prospects. I ultimately chose Eklund because I thought 7 was too early to take either of them but I could be wrong. It was more or less a way to push JOB to us in a "fairly realistic" scenario.

I will be bummed if one of the top 4/2 Swedes is available at #9OA and they don’t take them. Will obv support the player though.

If those 6 are gone I kinda hope it’s Smith or Kindel. But I really don’t care that much either. They could legit take whoever McKenzie ranked from like 8-25 if my top 6 are off the board and I won’t care. Just seems like one blob of similar talent.

It's pretty surprising how often the number 1 pick is not the best player in the draft, usually not even close whenever it isn't a generational talent there.

Like imagine being horrendous and you win the lottery and you are graced with Nugent Hopkins, Yakupov, Ekblad, Beniers, Slafkovsky, Power etc.

I mean those are good players besides Yakupov but cmon those guys are not at all changing your teams destiny.

He can take plenty of D-prospects with the 2nds and 3rds.

They should be going with best available at every pick but I totally get that as they get farther into the draft, players being better than each other especially between positions gets murkier.

But if a player falls that you have highly rated, take them. Can always make a trade later to fill a need when competing for a cup.

With how much Dubas talked about the left side of the D, I’m worried the reason we were indifferent on winning so much is because they want Kashawn Aitchenson

But that sorta player won't be ready for Years. He's not gonna reach at 9TH OA.

More likely he gets a UFA for immediate help.

Agreed, they should go Center or highly skilled forward as most of the top guys are Center or a Wing..

Agree but I just don’t trust Dubas
I trust Wes Clark, he's good at what he does. He's largely callin the shots here. I liked last years draft, we just need to build on it. We need to have an absolute WIN with our 1st pick. Cautiously Optimistic.

Hypothetically if we bink the first pick, would you guys want Schaefer or Misa? Personally I’d go with Misa, but landing a cornerstone LD is a big org need so I see that argument.

Kyle’s presser made it seem like our defensive prospects are “lacking” compared to other areas fwiw.
More like just further away, because they are. Owen Pickering next year probably, Brunicke 2 years away and then guys like Pieniniemi, Harding etc are even further.

Flip side, we just put two forward prospects in the top 6 and two more are coming soon (Ponomarev and Broz), and in goal there are two really solid guys already in WBS.

So that signals to me Kyle is going to trade for a D prospect or RFA this summer to bolster the NHL ready ranks.
