Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Everyone is trading up, but no one seems to be trading down edition

Reschny apparently had horrible interviews at the combine, to the point some teams have placed him on their do not draft list. Curious what came out that was so off putting.

I don't like to here that. Of the guys we can realistically get he might be the only one of the group left that I like.

I cant remember if I saw it online from a Flames insider only or if it was mentioned on the radio as well. But I know a couple Flames insiders were saying teams were not impressed at all. No one knew exactly why though.

He was my guy if everyone else I liked was gone. :(

I’ve watched a few of his interviews and he seems pretty normal to me. Wonder if there’s something known about his practice or off ice habits.

What you say in front of a camera for media verse closed doors can be very different. What I found interesting was it wasnt "he wasnt great at interviews" it was "interviews went horrible and teams have him on their DND list." Something is definitely off, curios as to what. You are probably correct its something off ice though.

Yeah unless he’s just like a complete a-hole, I just find it tough for someone media trained to bomb an interview. Maybe he had issues with his billets or something. Surely wouldn’t be the first time that has happened.

He might be one of those guys who's better at expressing himself through his play and not necessarily savvy otherwise. Not to make an excuse but he's one of the younger players in the draft. And the skill and vision he shows on the ice can't really be taught. Other aspects off the ice to some degree can be. I'm still a fan of him but it's a minor concern if there are red flags. I think him being a bit undersized would be more of an issue from my perspective. Pretty much every other facet of his game is what you'd like to see in a player.

At least in that interview he accorded himself well, I'll give him that.

Can you link your source?
One of the places stating it was an Athletics article, scout on there stated his interviews were awful and teams were not going to draft him. Other insiders piped in stating they heard the same thing. I dont have a subscription there so I cant link the article. Zero mention as to what the exact red flag is.

So you're saying they'll be able to nab him with 1 of their 2nds?

Bennett winning the Conn Smythe this year is going to make Martin go even higher, I honestly think he goes #4 to Utah at this point. Which is absolutely insane because Martin is nowhere near a #4 pick caliber player.

But hey, it makes it more likely O'Brien falls to the Penguins pick so I'm not complaining.
I watched a mock on YouTube where that happened. The guy said he thought it was too high for Martin and he had him closer to 15 I think but that he could see Utah taking him at 4.

When asked about if he would report a sexual assault he observed to the proper authorities, he said “yes”, immediately causing the Blackhawks to blacklist him. Other clubs followed suit.

Feels more like an "immanent liability" or "PR disaster" thing tbh. Which could be a total nothing burger or something horrible, who knows.

What kind of questions do they ask for these things? I assume like the rest of the world people lie for interview questions so Im really curious what a “red flag” is for these things.

Trying to find it. Was a few days ago. I think it was something I heard on the radio and a few Flames insiders confirmed it online.

So nothing? Have not seen nor read this anywhere. And I subscribe.

My updated mock for the top-12 as of right now is:

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Frondell
4. Martin
5. Desnoyers
6. Hagens
7. O’Brien
8. Martone
9. Mrtka
10. McQueen
11. Eklund
12. Aitcheson

Gut feeling I have is Martin goes to Utah and Nashville takes Desnoyers over Hagens because they view Desnoyers more of a center. Anaheim is a bit of a wildcard as well, I think they could go off the board again and have McQueen fall to #11.

If the Penguins get #12 this year, my bet is that they have a choice of 2 of McQueen, Eklund or Aitcheson. That doesn’t mean they’ll take 2 of those guys, but they’ll have the ability to pick 2 of those guys. McQueen and Eklund would be my preference but Aitcheson and Eklund would be the most likely picks.
