Bergevin continues to show he's unfit for the role & doesn't really understand what "build via draft" means.

Being unable to trade into the first round this offseason, with as many 2nds as we had & two quality assets to leverage (Galch/patches) is inexcusable.

All MB's fault, of course

Timmins is SOOOOO GREAT......

People bashing Samuel Houde havent seen him play. I've watched him in every episode of documentary Demain des hommes and he's tough as nail, good kid with a winning mentality. He's gonna do everything he can to help this team in the future.

So did Gabriel Dumont.

No disrespect intended, but you can have all the heart in the world and it still doesn’t give you an NHL skill set.

Houde is the big head scratcher. I know they wanted to get a Q player, but I swear sometimes they pick a random one for the sake of it.

What part of Houde’s game gives any sense of confidence he can play in the NHL?

How about half of the other kids they drafted today ?

Looks like the prospect pool was given a good jolt, we grabbed some talent.

Bergy worked the phone, and couldn't get another first, but that's not a problem, really.

But with Max not getting dealt I fear teams view the situation with the player, and Bergy's (uncertain) future now becoming a thing, as on where other GMs figure they have him over a barrel.

For some reference, according to Pronmon's list we drafted;

Kotkaniemi - 4th ranked
Ylonen - 14th ranked
Romanov - unranked
Olofsson - 44th ranked
Hillis - 59th ranked
Harris - Do not draft (High Skating marks, average puck skills, low physicality, above average IQ)
Mcshane - 39th ranked
Gorniak - unranked
Fonstad - 41st ranked
Houde - unranked

On very short evalution it seems boom or bust picks. All the bitching about safe grinder picks of the past h

Pretty happy. Romanov isn't bad, but way too high. Harris screams Staum. No clue about Gorniak. Houde is ****ing terrible and I hate that we had to get a Q guy. Pretty much love everyone else.
If I had to give a letter grade: A
His shot, and he is good at reading the play...

He has a very long way to go though

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: A-
Jesse Ylonen: B+
Alexander Romanov: C-
Jacob Olofsson: B-
Cameron Hillis: C
Jordan Harris: D
Allan Mcshane: B
Jack Gorniak: C-
Cole Fonstad: B+
Samuel Houde: F
Brett Stapely: D

Not sure what you're expecting from a 5th round pick. Except Anders Lee, Habs didn't miss much from the players that were picked after Dumont.

I expect boom or bust type of selections. Players with tools that need fixing in other departments. Projects. Not a nothing/throwaway pick like Houde.

Here's my thoughts. Also, my notes are draft position, my personal rank, player name, my comments.

#3 (#5) Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Good pick. A day later, I am happier. Ceiling is #1C, a real one also and not Drouin.
#35 (#34) Jesse Ylonen - Excellent pick. I love this kid.
#38 (#79) Alexander Romanov - Kind of a reach. I thought I had him at #49 earlier, but I was thinking Morozov who isn't even a defenceman anyways. Good player but I had others on my list at #38.
#56 (#39) Jacob Olofsson - We got a steal here.
#66 (#42) Cameron Hillis - My favorite steal of many.
#71 (not ranked) Jordan Harris - I've heard of him from the prospect board and know he's a good skater with upside. Seemed to had been picked around where Bob ranked him.
#97 (#56) Allan McShane - A steal and great pick by us.
#123 (not ranked) Jack Gorniak - I will admit I never heard of him.
#128 (#62) Cole Fonstad - I had him pegged with our Washington pick and stoked we stole him this late.
#133 (not ranked) Samuel Houde - Didn't expect this...

Overall, best draft for me as a fan and "internet" scout. Kotkaniemi not much to say. I had Boqvist and Wahlstrom ahead of him but can't complain.

Day 2 was amazing and we got 5 kids I would had wanted in Ylonen, Olofsson, Hillis, McShane and Fonstad.

Don't care much about Houde, Harris and Gorniak. I like Romanov but not at #38.

About Quebec players, there are many drafts that they should have tried a little harder to draft a good q player. This years draft was awful. And most people here including the writers who write online probably never even saw our new #3 play. I agree with McGuire who was not high on this player being picked at #3. I value McGuire opinion better than anyone on this forum as McGuire knows his players better than anyone on this forum

If Timmons was so great then how come we are drafting #3 this year?

If Timmons is so good why haven't we won more than 2 rounds in the play offs ?

These picks were awful. We need to change our people at the top as long as they're in charg we will never get past second round.

And price isn't getting younger lol. Wait wait till price starts slowing down.

Great strategy to take a lot of guys who can really skate. I like bergys plan here. He’s sticking to his long term vision of building through the draft. I think this may have been his best draft to date. Super super excited about our two Finns.

First things first, the guys who didn't go who we need to invite are:
Kyle Topping
Pavel Gogolev
Brendan Budy
Alexander Steeves
Chase Wouters
Karel Plasek

Second, the draft:
Kotkaniemi: A ; Got a top line C prospect, big kid, skilled, smart, has the right demeanor to succeed in this market.
Ylonen: A ; Scoring winger prospect, got a lot of talent
Romanov: B- ; Like the player, it's just too early.
Olofsson: A+; He has 2nd line upside as a C, his point totals in the Allsvenskan were great, wish we also got his teammate but to get a guy of his calibre that light, beautiful.
Cameron Hillis: A+; Love this player, my favorite pick we made today. He plays hard, he wants the puck, he was a true rookie in the OHL. May have the best passing and vision in the draft.
Jordan Harris: F; I didn't see this guy to have an own opinion but the Blackbook report on him is not very good. See Casey Staum
Allan McShane: B ; Value is there, feet aren't, has skills.
Jack Gorniak: C- ; Hard to really know since his stats were not good, his team wasn't good. Mixed reports on the kids sense.
Cole Fonstad: A ; At that point in the draft, potential steal, over a PPG in the WHL, loads of skill, loads of sense.
Samuel Houde: X; X for Xenophobia.. what the hell was that
Stapley: D; Brendan Budy is better from the same league.
