Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
Is Dubas going to do anything bold for a young player, or are we just gonna make a few draft picks and sign a couple yahoos in free agency? I’m guessing it’s the latter with a Nurse sprinkled in lol…it feels like he’s a bit of a coward …

Dubas will do what comes across his desk

It is a weak shtick, but it's been my hot take that he's done exactly ZERO time in the driver's seat on any of his trades. It's all situations that other teams or players have presented to him.

Not just pens tenure, I don't think he orchestrated a real trade in TOR either

He can draft and it's able to find good fits, mostly, but when it comes to other GMs, he's not in control

I do find this whole “players would rather play in markets where the media is less obnoxious” amusing because players in other leagues don’t care about that.

‘Toughest players in the world’ until the media and fans may say something mean about them.
Players don't give a shit about fans or media in any market, media just tries to spin a narrative that players care so they feel powerful. A player will be the consensus top five player, ever, in the world and dog the f*** out of their game for six weeks, to save energy for an ego trip to the Olympics, then sit there and act like sometimes the puck goes your way sometimes you're bounced from the playoffs by the Flyers like a bunch of bitches, and go home to their millions on their bed

The only player who I think really buys into that fan shit is Geno.

To no ones surprise, DK thinks we should trade our 1st because we have "winners" on the team.

I'm fine with moving up, back, or stay put.
Trading the 1st all together im not a fan of.

I don't think this is accurate at all. This is from Mike Grier after the Karlsson trade.

“Kyle was aggressive but was really willing to make some concessions on his end to make this whole thing work,” Grier said. “I think both sides made concessions on not only the retention number, but the package in general to get the deal done.”

yes drafting and signing players is normally what happens yes yes. Little envious of Ottawa are we? Can you imagine this board if the team traded three of its picks away to get someones brother?

I'm a bit envious tbh. 3 1sts would be HUGE for our rebuild.

We have 0 extra 1st round picks going forward. looking at a team.like calgary for example having two 1st round picks each draft for the next 3 drafts already.

I'm not complaining that we have some extra 2nd and 3rd rounders in the next few drafts. But we need to get som higher picks for sure. The inevitable drop off when the core ages out or quit will help getting some lottery picks. but we need to start gather some extra 1st rounders as well.

Being reactive is often better. He targets GM's who are dumb or desperate and then helps the process along. He keeps his leverage.

Just went through every single one of his 42 trades with us.
I tried to be as fair as possible. This is how I'd rate them:

Wins: 23
TBD's: 5
Ties: 11
Losses: 3

Could be convinced that a few ties belong in the L column, and that 1 TBD is looking bad and could be an L soon. But that's as far as I'll go.

This is why I call him a top-3 trading GM. It's very hard to rip him off.
If I was gonna point out something I take issue with, it would be the trades he's not making.
But I'm super pleased with the ones he does make, even though most are minor.

People want JR type trades right now. While entertaining, the team is in no position to try that right now.
