Rust is worth 5 Jason Robertsons!!

Seriously though, other teams have no problems trading their good players 🤷‍♂️
Because they don't want to be there or can't come to terms. We traded Jake Guentzel for similar reasons.

We should be thankful our best players have good contracts AND they want to be here. Especially the captain. It always starts there with every team.

Rust might want to be here but we need to trade him lol…

The extent to which Team USA is insisting on playing together in the NHL isn't really great for the sport.
League needs to address it instead of hand-waving it away. Sure, states should have lower taxes but until that happens(lol) you've created a situation where essentially players with NTCs/NMCs have a five year wait list to go to Nevada/Florida.

Idk I just feel weird with the trade. Like Brady is good, but he's not "3 1sts and a 2nd" good especially when you don't need him. Like I fully get it but I feel like I would have said "we'll wait for him to hit UFA" if I was in Zito's shoes.

I honestly feel like they did this move for Matthew. Brady is a good player but he will be 27 next year and 29 when hes next contract starts which will be over 10 mil.

Florida didnt really need more upfront. Jeff Petry suited up like 58 games for them. That should tell you all you need to know about the defense.

Agreed. This was a luxury move. Sure, out with Samoskevich and in with B. Tkachuk looks amazing on paper. But they have some work to do still.

Also, Maurice's job just got harder. Managing all of those ego's will not be easy.

Brady is going to be great as their fourth best forward.

It’s weird how people are suddenly thinking Florida stinks because they had a devastated roster after 3 cup runs.

That team is an absolute powerhouse still.

No argument here. And if his name was Brady Smith, no family in the NHL, there's no way this is happening either.

I popped into the Samoskevich trade thread in the Panthers forum to see their vibes given how all we talked about it here, and obvs they were speculating about what was coming next. Don't think I saw Brady's name there.

Short of making the cap post-tax earnings and pooling resources to handle it - which would cause an absolute fit among many - I don't think you can.

All that can be done is for other orgs to up their game so they can make competitive offers. Vegas and the Florida teams aren't drawing everyone just cos of the weather and financial advantages, it's because they're great places to play hockey.

The reality is Vegas and Florida are having success because their GMs are all in on winning and the vision of being a consistent contender.

This is the issue with a guy like Dubas imo or a team like Jersey. No path or too much faith in your players.

Failure needs to be addressed. Say what you want about the core three, but everything around them was dealt to win here too.

I agree not much can be done, but I don't think it's just the finances or weather or even being a competitive franchise anymore either. I think this younger generation values the celebrity less and will take the lifestyle and family perks over maximizing money. Can't blame em for that though.

It's weird how much tax-free states matter to NHL players and how little they seem to matter in the NFL, MLB, and kind of the NBA.
Well, to be fair two of those leagues basically don't have salary caps (yeah I know the NBA has a soft cap). The NFL makes so much ungodly money I'm sure the players can make up anything they miss out being in a high tax state or with a hard cap system.

But hey, PA did drop the jock tax so the Pens and Flyers should be the second choice after the sunbelt teams right?!!?

While this might be true, I do not think this applies to the Tkachuk's, Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Jack and Quinn Hughes, etc.

The gold medal was their ticket to celebrity status, and they are absolutely using it to the utmost.

I think it’s because every canadian team is ran like dog shit and the media is obnoxious. Did Mitch Marner ask out because of the USA group chat?

I'm not sure I follow. Florida/Nevada offer inherently better lifestyle/family perks?

I mean, there are a lot of variables but when you compare how much money a player realizes from a $10M contract living in Toronto or Los Angeles compared to living in Vegas or Miami, it's not an equitable playing field. Not sure how this is controversial.

I was basing this off an interview with Marner I believe, who basically said where he lived was family centered blah blah and he could go out with his family and not be mobbed by media etc. Of course anywhere is going to be better than Toronto but I read a similar thing from a player in Florida.
