Doughty nominated for the Norris

No matter who wins the Norris, here's a guarantee: Doughty will finish his career with more Cups than the other guys nominated or those being talked about as being worthy nominees. The only other dman to have a similar impact as Drew when it comes to big games is Duncan Keith.

Drew against those two will never win the Norris. We all Know Karlssons going to win it. Unless Drew outscores those two he'll never win the Norris!

Doughty will win one some day, maybe two. He just needs to be in the top 10 in points and the Kings need to make the playoffs.

Drew doesn't stand a chance, not enough points.

Norris - best defenseman......my ass

best scoring defenseman, playing D has nothing to do with the award any longer. this award NEEDS to be separated - period. one for best defenseman based on offensive stats and one based on defensive stats.

the Norris imo now is a joke. when guys like Karlsson win this my point is proven, the guy is a #3-6 Dman when you look at his overall game. world class with the puck, average at best without the puck and defending his zone. Karlsson is no Lidstrom, who many compare him to. bs, Lidstrom wasn't a defensive liability.

Subban is a mix between Karlsson and Drew i think. better defensively than karlsson and better offensively than drew. a few more years of experience and i think Subban will be lights out.

DD on the other hand is truly an overall Dman. he was worked for and improved his D capability each year. offense was never a question, it was how well he could defend. i think he has been the best overall (some would say best shut down) D in the world for the past 2 or 3 years.

his major weakness continues to be the PP, he is NOT a PP QB. i believe he is still best used on the PP on the off wing as a shooter. which presents his second weakness - often times he takes to long to shoot if not a one-timer. yeah he takes some crazy chances that sometimes leads to a turnover and a goal here and there. those are it.

the guy is rock solid on both ends. give every coach in the NHL the chance to select one of these three as their only D and i bet DD gets picked easily by over 50% of them. i would bet it would be something in the 70-80% area.

Because according to the HF experts, he should not even be considered due to his lower point production and it's embarrassing to put Doughty and Norris in the same sentence.

Yet it is perfectly acceptable to have a guy who plays 30 seconds a game on the PK be called the best D man in the league. Go figure.

Don't be surprised if he wins. Only one without a previous win in the group. The media has been talking him up big all season as well. I just don't think he's as much of a dark horse as some are claiming.

But any award that is voted on by the PHW is going to skew east just because that is where most of them are. I would like to see him win but he doesn't do enough on the score sheet. What he does you must watch. Where even if you don't watch the other 2 you can look at the score sheet and see they got points.

Congratulations to Doughty, a well deserved nomination.

Can't see why Suban was nominated. There are several more worthy defensemen playing in the Western Conference.

Like the Calgary captain. But see might post above for why. PHW are mostly in the east so the west gets hosed.

Keith and Weber not nominated is a crime pretty much.

Roman Josi could have easily been a very good pick as well.

While I respect Bob McKenzie, I can't get behind him giving Giordano a first place vote for the Norris even though he got injured and missed the final 20 games. It's a wasted vote.

So much crying on the main boards. Wish DD wins it but Karlsson beats him points wise so he'll win it.

That's a shocker...

I really think they got it right, IMO these are the three best defenseman in the NHL. Three game changing, elite, hall of fame caliber defenders.

I think Karlsson narrowly beats out Doughty, but if Doughty gets it he clearly deserves it too, there has not been a better defenseman in bigger games than Drew.

Keith not being up there is shocking imo, his hype has been surprisingly quiet all year. Weber not being nominated is not a shock at all, Josi is a better pick, but I guarantee they ate each other's votes, doubt many people have them as 2-3, 4-5 on their ballots or anything like that. You pick one or the other imo and Josi has been flat out better this year.

This was Gio's to lose imo but Doughty has been more consistent than Subban or Karlsson all year...it may not feel like it around here, but people forget Karlsson was flat garbage until late december to the point where people wondered aloud if he was still a top defenseman anymore. He's fortunate to have picked up at the end for recency bias...basically the opposite of Gio.

Great he gets put into consideration. On the main board thread someone listed stats comparing the nominated and Josi. I was interested to see that Doughty had about 150 hits, compared to something like 100/ 100 /50 by the other guys. Was doughty banging this year or are our stat collectors exagerating?

Doughty 152 Hits / 144 Blocks
Subban 97 Hits / 142 Blocks
Karlsson 93 Hits / 89 Blocks

D with the most hits? Orpik with 306
D with the most blocks? Russell with 283

Doughty will start winning Norris trophys when he stops trying to dangle at the blue line, trying to pick corners with every shot, using that huge wind up on slap shots, etc.

He just needs to mature. Make the safe play instead of trying to show off his "sick hands". Take a wrist shot that gets through a few times per game. Then he'll have the points and the analytics to win.

I tend to agree, but I really think he toned down the showboating this year, I think when it happened he was legitimately trying to power thru to victory rather than trying ot make Sportscenter. But the real focus that I agree with is he needs to stop cement-heading slappers into shinguards. Need to clockwork orange him with that Keith wrist shot.
