Glad they did not trade him. Now lets ink him ot a new contract.

BWC please refrain from posting here, you repeated your dislike of Donato enough, just calm down and listen to your Sade records.

This is good news to me, look forward to more years of Donato as a hawk. Good example for the yewts. Lets hope thisyear is not a fluke.

Donato's problem is the market dictates his value and no one was interested in the asking price. If he gets extended I hope its not for more than 3y 10m 3.333 avg. KD holds all the cards since no one wanted him and can pay him whatever he(KD) wants.

Not glad he's still here. Wanted another 1st.

Hoping his new contract doesn't bite us in the ass too bad (a small bite on the ass is kinky, a big bite on the ass is an awkward trip to the ER).

Define 'new contract'

I'm fine with it. Dont care if he walks for nothing, something to be said about keeping this room together for the rest of the year, and Donato seems really well liked and really enjoys being here.
No idea if he likes being here or not. I can't imagine any guy wouldn't want to be able to go to a contender for a Cup run vs. wallowing away in the garbage that is the modern day Hawks. But hey, he'll get a lot more shifts here than he would on a contender.

Did you see his interview earlier on in the year? At the time, he was a healthy scratch (undeservingly so) and knew he was on a last place team, yet still wanted to just stay in one city instead of moving every other year.

Donato is a bottom 6er, nothing more. This season is an anomaly.

Kyle is going to sign him to a 5x5 extension.
Jason Zucker new deal might be the comp, so 5m per for 2 years...but IDK what spending 30-40m or whatever they have allocated to these fringe middle 6/bottom pair guys really does for them, doesn't increase their tank equity and it takes away TOI/roster spots from prospects...helps with the cap floor but a few of these guys now are borderline waiver wire players

Nope I will comment

This was terrible decision, and nothing about decision is good news

Well off to sleep and I will ease myself into that sleep with some nice music

is this an unsurprising outcome if you are continuously fired from your job? its like Foligno, Martinez, Brodie etc being happy to sign here, of course they are, because they're getting 2x+ their real market rate, if not more

2 year deal, I'm down.
3 year deal, meh... don't love it but don't hate it.
4 year deal or more, .... I'd be pissed.
can't imagine they go from 'he's as good as gone' to that kind of term...2-3 years seems like a good bet based on KD's contracts so far unless they see the AAV as very favorable to go longer...Teravainen should be their benchmark at most for a Donato deal

I wouldn't be suprised if his contract isn't bad if the trade value not being met indicates anything but you never know and its my wishful thinking

This will definitely be the defining moment for KD. If he gives Donato something he doesnt deserve based on the entire NHL's perception of him I think there will be many people joining the fire KD mob with Musto and them. Me included.

No, but it answers the question on if he would be happy here or not. And him signing at 4mil is hardly 2x his market share, considering he'll easily get that as a UFA.

I said Foligno, Martinez and Brodie are 2x+...add in AA, Mrazek etc...Dickenson? Miyawhatever? all of them

i think a 3 yr deal with contract somewhere around 3.5-4 mil would be appropriate for him. Lord knows its better and worth more than what KD has handed out to guys like Athanasiou

It’s really not a big deal unless he signs for over 4 years
