Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

Question: doesn’t the short length of the extension limit the head coaching pool? If I’m a potential coach I want a gm with longer term for job protection.

How can Sweeney offer more than a two year contract when he doesn’t know if he’ll be around????
If you want to coach in the NHL you jump at this opportunity. There is only 32 head coaching jobs out there .And Sweeney can offer more term if he chooses to.If I am a head coach I just want guaranteed years so I know I get paid .

No it shouldn't be an issue. Sweeney's extension means he is employed for the next 3 years, of course he could get fire, but the extension runs through midyear 2028.

That said They can and will offer the coach whatever it takes to sign them. If the standard is 3 years they can absolutely give 3 years no issue. If the standard (or need) was 5 years they could offer 5 years. Sure the coach might be concerned they would get let go, if/when the GM were to be fired, but coaches in the league know GMs might leave. they get paid anyway, even if let go.

So I don't believe it should be a real hindrance. Maybe it is a deciding factor if someone has 2 job offers, but guess what, the other GM might be on just as short a leash

Pretty slimy move waiting till Bruins hired Sturm knowing he was firing Peter.
I’m ecstatic - I’m all about trust and respect. DeBoer violated.

If Sweeney hired DeBoer you guys would have actually got to see me bash Sweeney

His star players turned on him, these guys are all friends

Let’s see how long he goes without a HC job

Maurice will pick him up as AC

I am not saying Bruins had to hire him. I am saying Nill knew he was firing him but made sure first he had 0 options at NHL level.Peter let his emotions get best of him over shitty goaltending but firing him was not enough for Nill.

I do think Sturm was hired last week towards end as reported and Bruins sat on as got ready/focused on combine. Sturm would have notified Kings and probably how got out

DeBoer should have known better - and should not have pulled him anyways - complete panic

I don't think pulling him for DeSmith was any better but Oettinger let in alot of stoppable pucks that series Edmonton is in his head kind of like Neely was in Roy's.

Jim Nill who’s considered the best GM in hockey with 0.0 Cups will have his 6 coach since 2017.

How do Stars fans allow this
yep

In 10 seasons under Sweeney, the Bruins have a 458-233-91 regular-season record, with eight playoff berths. The team's 1,007 points and . 644 point percentage are tied for the best in the NHL in that period.

Nill took over in 2013 and rebuilt the Stars after they missed the playoffs five years in a row. The team missed the playoffs a few times during his rebuilt but his overall record those last years is better than what Sweeney´s teams achieved. He isn´t the best GM in the league but teams recent playoffs record, that´s were the focus be on a GMs overall success should be, is much better
