Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

Why sre Scott Bradley and Dennis Bonvie still employed by the Boston Bruins?

Some media type should ask this basic question.

But they won't.

Sounds like a job for Ty Anderson.

You could wheel KPD out there, too.

I can't see how Sweeney can have any faith in his pro scouts after this past off-season.

Which scout provided positive scouting reports on Riley Tufte and Max Jones? You're fired!

It's crazy how history always repeats. When Chiarelli was let go, folks here hated him. And the message then was the same as the message now. He didn't actually build the Cup team, O'Connell drafted the big forwards, Gorton signed the big free agents. I didn't think it was fair then and I don't think saying Sweeney inherited the 2019 team is fair either.

Wasn't that defense mostly Sweeney? McAvoy was our best D, Carlo was a big key to that run, Krug was recruited by Sweeney, even Grzelcyk was good on that run. Clifton was a Sweeney guy. Up front, DeBrusk had a great playoff. Sweeney traded for Coyle and Johansen. That line with Heinen was the best 3rd line in the playoffs that year. Kuraly, Acciari and Wagner were beasts and all Sweeney guys...
So overall you aren't wrong about people hating Chia. But that was more about the random NTC's he was giving everyone. Chris Kelly got a NMC. That was tough to defend. But he was fine for the most part. Drafting was better. Trades were meh. However he did get this team a cup which does put him above Sweeney.

I agree. But unfortunately, if the Jacobs family loves you and you consistently get them a few home playoff games, you're golden. Harry Sinden never won a cup, and he was GM for nearly 30 years. He went through 12 coaches, and when they had an early/earlier than expected playoff exit, he made the Coach the scapegoat by firing them.
^ Like a bodily function.

I have 3 thoughts. I have no idea which if any is true.

1) the general view that they had coach hiring trouble with Sweeney being a lame duck - probable

2) Sweeney did Marchand a favor. They have a solid relationship. This is a signal to Brad that he can come home for the next 3 years - possible

3) They have given Sweeney the green light to tank for McKenna if they can't find a way to right the ship now as free agency is pretty slim and prospects might not be ready - slim chance but what if?

Point being a GM on his last year will never tank or soft tank etc. unless he knows he has more years to rebuild after. I hope there's a way to a quick turnaround, but one never knows.

I would take Jeff Gorton in a heartbeat over Prof. Sweenes.

In retrospect, the wrong guy got the job.
I've been saying the same thing for almost 20 years now. In his 2-3 months as GM, Gorton set this team up to be successful for 15 years. He also eventually turned The Rangers into a cup contender after years of being awful or mediocre and now he's turned The Habs around too with their future looking very bright.

KPD used to call it The Vault on Causeway under Sinden and then OC.

That has been the case in the present regime as well.

Carry on, Sinden Lite,

There is one scenario that scares me.
If
- Swayman turns it around
- Lindholm comes back the way he did before injury
- McAvoy plays like he did a few years ago
- Lohrei improves on his D
Then they probably have a good enough back end to maybe make the playoffs. Then Donnie would convince the "brain" trust that the re-tool is working.
The reality actually will be that they will be mediocre, at best.

I keep saying it, Poor Pasta.

If this happens, the Bruins are contenders?

I know. Not as GM though. Neely has one as President, yet there is some weird faction of fan here who think Neely is why the Bruins haven't won, and not Sweeney.

It’s crazy because we’re a G7 win at home away from this not being true. Too bad the team on the ice couldn’t show up.

I would argue that Sweeney had more to do with the Bruins winning in 2011 than Neely.

Neely, at the time, seemed to be in the role I wish he’d stay in:

Less Hockey Ops, more PR and being the face of the organization.

Honestly, I don't think he did anything to earn that Cup.

No inside knowledge obviously. Just an opinion.

It was just nice to see him raise a cup and get a ring. Because as a player, it would have been nice to see. Can’t question his on-ice play.

And I say this as someone who didn’t get to witness him play firsthand.

why I do like this is I believe (and I`ve been wrong before) that when going FA hunting, my hunch is a FA would be far more comfortable signing with a team that doesn`t have a GM whose contract is expiring and there is some stability? I dunno, Sweeney far from perfect but there are also far worse out there
Where are these that are far worse? Callers into F&M have been irate.
