Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

I would have preferred a change in President & General Manager before the trade deadline so that a new administration could start the rebuild/retool. When that didn't happen it made sense to extend Sweeney since he's still their guy. This way a new coach can have some certainty of who the boss will be the next couple years.

It's the only realistic move they could make at this point with the draft around the corner, then free agent period along with the new HC search. Besides, for you Sweeney haters out there, it's not as if he can't be fired before the two years is up- it will just cost Jacobs money to do it.

So he can't be fired

Trying to do a positive spin:

1) Tocchett "reports" of not wanting to sign here with GMs job in question pushed this.

2) Its not a 5 year deal. His team fell apart, he gets a chance to put it together again, unlike Chiarelli. But its not 5 years at least? So there is a possibility if the suck continues they can not re-sign him, or fire him without having to pay much.

this is absolutely accurate

Personally I'd like to see what Sweeney could do without Neely meddling

Its not that people "hate him" I think we acknowledge that he's done some good things, specifically with trades. The problem is how much rope can you give mediocrity? A huge part of this teams issue this year and years past has to do with the lackluster (thats putting it nicely) drafting record. Even taking 2015 out of it, he's not good. He's great at trading but garbage at signing players and drafting. 1 out of the 3 main skills that you would judge a GM on unless I'm missing something here.

The actual cup winning GM didn't get this much rope, but he's not a crony

he made demonstribly worse moves though despite having a much better core and starting point. He had a ton of hall of famers in their prime, proceeded to not fix holes, traded the one young near elite center we had for a bag of crap, and overpaid guys that were absolute JAGs

it was a very worthy firing

honey bbq chicken supermelt.

DROOL.
Wow must be a hockey Bruins thing - 3 for 3 here

Funny but I’m doing a cardio work out but will blow it all at Friendly’s. 114 in Peabody 2 minutes from gym and 5 minutes from house

They couldn't find a coach, meaning they would also have struck out July 1

Rumor mill is point to coaches not wanting to come here because of Sweeney and his " fire the coach" mentality.

His history of failure is catching up to him, and deserves to be fired at this point. At least Chia won a cup to make up for all his **** ups. Sweeney has no such accolade.

My first thought too lol.

People refuse to let go of the 2015 draft, because past that he's been a great GM. Assembled one of the most stacked rosters we've ever seen in the cap era. Not his fault the players/coach fudged it up in the first round.

"Other than that, how was the play Mrs Lincoln?"

Also ignoring 2015, what has he done that has been great? He inherited a team that the 2 years prior went to the Cup finals and won the Presidents Trophy and had a core of:

Bergeron (29)
Lucic (26)
Marchand (26)
Krejci (28)
Rask (27)
Hamilton (21)
Smith (23)
Pastrnak (18)
Krug (23)

I think my favorite Sweeney move was trading a 26 year old Lucic because he doesnt want to pay big money to a power forward into his 30s...then giving the same big money contract to a 31 year old Backes who he'd later have to pay a 1st to unload.

No GM who has zero Cups should ever be given the chance to hire their 3rd coach.
