Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Do people agree with that? I 100% believe he was saying Mitch was a passenger. Did he say other things?

I think there was a clip of Matthews looking annoyed after Mitch yelling at the bench.
Both of them were passengers .. i can tell you from watching da fiasco live that both of them sh*t da bed in da worst possible way .. when that line went on da ice da game was completely tilted to da cats except for 2 shifts .. 2 freakin shift man .. disgusting

It was allegedly Marner but there's no proof AFAIK.

No, it is pure conjecture from dubious (at best) sources to say that he wanted to make changes. Pittsburgh signing Marner at this point in their franchise would be a horrible choice like trading for Karlsson, but with Dubas at the helm there's a good chance he does the wrong thing.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated.

NHL insider Chris Johnston recently detailed some clashes with fans that Marner has had over the years that may have shaped his future with the team. From Johnston's most recent podcast episode:

“If there's two things that have made Toronto not a place that Mitch Marner is all that eager to keep playing in, it would be his original contract negotiation back in 2019, which he and his camp extended into training camp. He signed after a day or two of missing camp that year. But that's when the fans started to turn on him.”

“And, you know, Mitch gave interviews at that time, said it was the first time he'd ever been yelled at. He was walking his dog once, and some guy that summer was yelling like, “Why don't you have a contract?” And people started talking a lot about his dad and what role his dad may or may not have played in those negotiations.”

“And Mitch kind of bristled at his family being brought into it. And then on top of that, in the six years that followed, when the playoff success wasn't there, you know, a lot of it was aimed his way. And I will say, much of it justified, but I'm aware of a few incidents that Mitch had to deal with, and there's probably more that I don't know about, where it bordered on harassment.”

“And it was very uncomfortable for him and people he cares about. And, you know, there's even an incident after this game that we're not going to get into here because I don't want to give it any more life. But, you know, people, it crossed the line a lot of times with some of the, you know, whatever we want to call them, the fanatics and the fan base, the crazies that, you know, people almost took it too personally, I think.”

Thank you for contributing.

We're a pretty sour crowd after Monday...apologies for some of our behaviour.

Mitch is an elite defender, an elite set up guy and an OK goal scorer and will disappear when the moment gets big. He's a 100pt guy all day. IMO Pitts is further way than a Mitch Marner, the best thing Dubas can do is find value for his assets and start the rebuild now. Nothing worse than being in Hockey purgatory where you are not good enough to get a playoff spot and not bad enough to get a difference maker draft pick.

They say when the going gets tough do you get big or do you get small. Mitch gets small but with a leader like Crosby maybe Mitch follows Crosby into war. You guys got the greatest player and leader of the last 30 years, Crosby and Marner would probably be gold but do you want to pay 13 -14 mil for a one guy when there are so many other things Dubas needs to address?.

Thanks! It's all good.

Still a marner fan, the leafs organization however botched so much up. His negotiations deliberately made us dislike him, they did him dirty. Hope he takes a little Off and signs long..

Will miss the little (NHL players) guy.

I'll laugh next year as he'll likely exceed every one of these years below on his new team.

Dude you are the nicest out of town fan we've had visit this board since the season ended, thanks for that.

If it weren't for Dubas I wouldn't have a single negative thing to say about the Penguins. I hope you can understand why we have such a strongly negative opinion of him over here. Who knows, maybe he's learned and will lead the Penguins well? Too soon to tell.

No worries. I thank you for the kind words. And yes I was coming here bracing myself for the worst, but it was nowhere near that at all.

I know that feeling, so I get it. My venom was directed at Mike Sullivan but my personal hell is over so my outlook is far more positive.

It gets better.

It's not my place to claim I know Sullivan better than you do, but I think the Rangers are doomed to mediocrity with him. They'll get a new coach bounce but his arrogance, stubbornness and neutering of anyone under 25 is going to really set them back.

Marner, 20 pounds heavier would probably be slower and not as effective.
I dont agree... a stronger core and leg strength could make him faster and definitely give him more balance and more difficult to knock off the puck.

Btw ... Marner talked about putting in the work to be stronger for next season. Had to laugh... considering he had to be told to do that this past offseason by Tree and Berube after clearly not doinf it years prior.

...but hey, he knows what to say in order to attract those big contracts.

He will be slower if he bulks up and he won't be as nimble or elusive. He doesn't have a build to change and most importantly he is too old to make that shift.
