I dont understand why Karlsson doesnt come out and say "I wont discuss my personal life"

Then its end of story, can no longer be a distracrtion...

I dont care if he speaks or not on a day to day basis, I just dont like the negativity surrounding our franchise player... He wouldnt answer questions after being named to the Olympic team either(To any reporters), he just seems to be immature at times

he has to come out and say that?

i just don't get why he doesn't want to sit down and have a beautiful conversation with this guy

Brennan was on the radio today saying he is doing his job for the fans. The fans want to know this stuff.
I'll tell you what the fans want Donny....for you to **** right off. Seriously, no one wants to hear from you. ever again. please don, go away.

So I guess that means we're 5-0-1 since he stopped talking? You'll have to forgive me if I don't give a **** who Erik Karlsson talks to as long as the team is performing well, and even if they aren't I want to hear from the GM and Coach, not the same garbage from the players.

We're starting to turn a corner, gain some confidence and win some games and Brennan wants to bring this **** out? Cool, good on ya Donny, just doin' yer job right? Make sure you get to the bottom of why that 23 year old had a ****** year when any ******* with an internet connection (ie. myself) can figure it out.

The worst part of all of this is he probably knows exactly what is going on.

Well that covers it. Not much need to say more.

When things are going well, and they are going VERY well right now, if whichever player's been doing something in particular and we keep winning, as a "journalist" you don't go write a dumb article about it. Brennan needs to move to Toronto or Boston and leave the reporting to the pros.

As far as I know EK has the OK from the team to keep quiet - that should be enough for the 'professionals' in the industry to get over themselves and move on for a few days.

And I love this grandeur 'Voice of The People' character Donni is trying to put on right now. I line my rat's cage with the free copies of the Sun I get from work - and George Michael's pellets are most weight Brennan's words will ever hold.

This is the greatest post ever :handclap:

If Brennan isn't going to watch the games or practices he should spend the time listening to Jim Rome interview all-star athletes. After that, he might have something more to write about than how he can't get interviews.

When you are an NHL superstar, your right to privacy is going to be compromised at least somewhat. People are going to ask for autographs and photos at awkward times, and they're going to have an interest in your personal life. When Fisher started dating Carrie Underwood, and when Hillary Duff was in the building for Comrie, that was news. So too is Erik Karlsson's divorce. Now, we aren't owed all the messy details, but if Karlsson's simply had the club issue a statement acknowledging what is happening then saying he would no longer address it publicly, that would work, and then it's done. It's called "Getting out in front of the story."

Good lord. Brennan is guest hosting on TGOR right now. Flat out agrees when JR suggests he is publicly calling EK out. Like just stop, bro. What are you doing.

They're just dancing all around this "personal issues" thing. It's so awkward that neither of them want to actually say it.

"I'm trying to get the story for the fans"

Edit, I emailed in. But he probably loves the attention he is getting. Damn it.

I think Chezzz is actually Don Brennan and is just drawing attention to himself. Think about it - his articles and player interviews are completely ridiculous, and yet we spend so much time commenting on him about how annoying he is. He's the perfect troll, and he's laughing his ass off about it reviewing our comments.

Damn, how'd you guess genius??

Brennan has been giving his take on TGOR. He admits that Karlsson came out to meet the media after the Colorado game and likely will after the game tonight but will just be talking about the game.

So its pretty clear that discussing the game is not what Brennan is after and that he wants to write about his personal life.I dont think that is necessary or something that is done in any NHL town.

Brennan takes runs at player such as urging fans to boo Gonchar at the season opener a couple of years ago. He also likes to show off for visiting press and will likely try to make this a topic for Montreal media.

He's a Bruins fan and could care less what happen to the Sens or if this distracts Karlsson as long as there are hits to his articles.

It has nothing to do with Ek's private life, Brennan spelled that out clearly.

What Don is saying is the fans deserve EKs opinions on the team and his game.

IMO he is right.

EK hiding from the media will only result in even greater speculation on a topic that has nothing to do with hockey.

Brennan confirmed 100% this morning on TSN1200 that he has been looking for an explanation of Karlsson's tweet and hasn't gotten it and it has become personal. Confirmed that Karlsson spoke to the media after the Colorado game, which wasn't all that long ago.

So, basically, Brennan confirmed that he is trying to be a *****-disturber.

This is a good example of Brennan's expert analysis:

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Brennan/2008/06/21/5947311-sun.html

As far as making a splash, Bryan Murray tossed a pebble into the lake that was Round 1 of the NHL draft last night.

Not to be outdone by his wheeling-and-dealing counterparts, the Senators GM traded up three steps so he could take ... Erik Karlsson?

"Nice way to show your thanks to the fans for their support," said Brian Samuel, a regular ticket-buying customer at Scotiabank Place who was sitting in Level 2 wearing a Senators jersey and surrounded by his buddies in Leafs and Blackhawks colours.

"That's a garbage pick. They could have had him in the second round."

Thing is, we really don't know how good Karlsson can and will be. The 43rd player ever drafted into the NHL from the Frolunda hockey team in Sweden, he is advertised as a great skating defenceman with a big shot.

But he's also tiny, listed at 5-foot-10 and 157 lbs.

"I like big strong guys," said Murray, noting Karlsson has some work to do in the gym. "But I also like high-end skilled people."

Karlsson won't play in the NHL for a year or two or three, if he ever does. Real tough to get excited about him now.

It's pretty simple, Karlsson doesn't trust Brennan and much of the Ottawa media (evidently). If he did, he would share some opinions and give them the soundbites they so crave.

The relationship between players and the media is tenuous. The reporters can't write glowing fluff pieces all of the time, but they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Karlsson obviously feels slighted and is exercising his right to ignore the idiot.

Is bad attention really good attention for a reporter?

I mean sure, clicks on the story are money.. but if people are saying "**** the Sun" because of this guy, surely someone must take notice.

Karlsson should have a sit down interview with Wayne Scanlan.

Brennan busy contradicting himself on TGOR. Says he is not interested in Karlsson's personal life, then in the next sentence makes it clear that is exactly what he is after.

The Ottawa Sun (or all Sun newspapers in Canada) have made a living off of sensationalist or negative reporting their entire existence... It's what they do and apparently it works..

People do love a train wreck..

When it comes to anyone's personal life it should be hands off. Can't blame EK for avoiding this "reporter". Athlete or not , it is all about respect and DB just doesn't get it.

I tuned Brennan out years ago. He comes on, I turn it off - if I ever have 1200 on. 1200 whatever it is these days - Complete waste of time and very little useful, new information. Bickering, ego, way too many commercials, poor quality hosts, unimaginative interviews, innuendo, stupidity, I refuse to listen. 690 is better radio

Brennan already bringing it up on the radio with a Montreal reporter and you can be sure he will be spinning this all day.

JR has been his champion this morning but I dont agree with him at all. Brennan has taken lots of hard runs at players though he always brown noses Murray and the management. He and Garrioch pride themselves at running players out of town or at least making life miserable for them here .

I also dont agree that a players private life would be splashed all over the papers in Montreal or Toronto at all, they pretty much avoid getting into the players personal life.

I doubt players would talk to Brennan if they decided to talk to any reporter. And I think Scanlan, who is more likely to take on management when necessary and less likely to take cheap shots at players or have a vendetta against a particular player, would be the best one to talk to.

If this keeps going on couldn't Karlsson hit him with some type of harassment or defamation lawsuit? By this point none of this is about hockey anymore...
