It's August 5th, I don't understand How he's still sitting out there.

He's got a 30 goal season as a rookie.

17 goals in the 56 game 20-21 season that's about a 25 goal pace.

Then it admittedly drops to 15 in his final season in Chicago

Then he goes right back to 20 goals and 45 points in Detroit

And in Ottawa it didn't work only 11 goals and 15 points.

But Ottawa aside Kubblik has been a solid depth scorer wherever he's been.

Ottawa is starting to look like things are changing now, but prior to the new ownership Ottawa was a dumpster fire.

Surely teams aren't thinking he's done because of his stint in Ottawa.

There is a 20+ goal scorer sitting out there right now and nobody wants him? Surely that's not the case it doesn't make sense

How is this surprising... It happens literally every year. Guys price themselves higher than the market for them is worth. Teams move on and circle back late in the summer for cheap.

I could think of a few teams that could use a 20+ goal scorer my own included there is a spot open at LW for somebody.

And yours to considering both Landeskog and Nuke are out.

And even if Landeskog does come back he's been out a LONG time will he be the same?

Maybe depends on what his salary expectations are and if he's been willing to take a lower salary like Daniel Sprong had to.

As it is, most teams already have their top 9s penciled in. Some teams perhaps would rather just see what they have with one of their unproven prospects rather than bring in somebody like Kubalik.

Other teams have cap space but are still negotiating with their own RFAs. Devils have Dawson Mercer, Hurricanes have Seth Jarvis, Bruins have Jeremy Swayman, etc. Those teams can't paint themselves into a corner potentially.

Maybe other teams are waiting to see how the dominos fall regarding somebody like Patrik Laine before committing to another UFA winger? But as others alluded to, Kubalik might just be in that boat with the Alexander Barabanov / Andreas Johnssons of the world.

Perhaps my least favourite Ottawa Senator of all-time.
Complete lack of effort.

The forwards that have sucked during the Sens 'dumpster fire' years have also sucked after they left. C.White, Tierney, Watson, Sanford, Anisimov, Stepan, L.Brown, etc...

If Ottawa had a history of forwards leaving and finding immediate success, you'd have a point - but that's just not the case here. Kubalik being without a contract is a direct result of how awful he was last year, and has nothing to do with Ottawa not being a model franchise.

He'll be signed. My point was it isn't surprising at all to see him not signed at this stage in the summer. We see guys like this not get signed until September basically every year.

Tomas Tatar coming off a 20+ goal season didn't sign until Septmeber last year. The summer before that, Evan Rodrigues didn't sign until late August coming off 19 goals and 43 points as well.

Someone will sign Kubalik once his asking price comes down enough. Dude was probably looking for like $2.5-3.5M or at least some term on July 1st. He'll sign for like 1x$1M in a few weeks.

He's terrible. And not a player you want on a 3rd or 4th line. I don't see him playing in the NHL again after last year.

Same kind of guy as Sprong.

Will score if given the opportunity, but you can always get better than him for top6 roles.

Think both Kubalik and Labanc are in similar situations. Some offensive skills but stuck on bottom teams and either unwilling or unable to do the other parts of the game that make the difference between winning and losing.

Difference with Sprong is he at least produces well above his weight even in limited minutes, Kubalik was basically just in a good situation as a rookie

Both will likely end up in Europe within the next 2-3 years.

He isn't that good

Showed promise early on in Chicago and then never built on it and rest of the game flaws showed thru

When not scoring he is pretty much worthless and isn't a fit for bottom 6 role

Since he hasn't been doing alot of scoring since his early time in Chicago that means he is generally worthless on ice and waste of roster spot

There are guys like that all thru league

Anthanasou on Hawks is useless when not scoring and like Kubalik is also a former 30 goal scorer early on in his career

Like Kubalik his career has faltered for most part outside of early promise/success

You don't understand how a 15 pt guy and -30 is a UFA still?

Difference is, Sprong can do what he does with 11-12 minutes a night. Kubalik needs at least 14-15 to produce, but then you have him on D for more than you want.
