In 1993, LA won the 1st game in Montreal , were up in the 2nd game , then LA took a penalty , and miraculously Montreal called Marty McSorley for an illegal stick , it had too much curve , Montreal was suspected of "stealing" the stick during a practice so they knew. Montreal won that game and the series (4-1) after that. Some accused them of "cheating", and since then Canada hasn't won the Cup. The "Curse" is just a way of Trolling Canada.
So you're saying Harold Ballard is not to blame?

****, all these years on this planet........it's nice to finally know the truth!

Thank you my good friend!

Like he has done such a good job the last 5 years of "growing the league" with the TV ratings down for the playoffs. There is less people watching because of their fragmented NHL broadcasting that requires subscription to 50 different streaming services just to watch the complete season of your team. Gary isn't growing the league, he only cares about the money and pleasing the greedy owners.
Believe it or not, that’s literally his job.

If the Habs would have "cheated", wouldn't they have been the first team to suffer the curse? The series was (I believe) tied at one after McSorley got caught with his pants down. More than enough time for the curse to smite the Habs

Historical moment upon us, if US "Southern" team Florida wins today, it will be 16th win for US Teams below 40 degrees latitude (DC/Denver or below).
In 30 last cups it was a 15-15 tie (Canada contributed zilch).
Thanks Gary, go south! (If McD wins I will cheer too)

It's not a curse. It's just logic. There are 32 NHL teams and there's only 6 Canadian teams. If anything Canadian teams have overachieved for the low number they are.

Habs dominated the 70s. And won two more cups after that. Oilers dominated the 80s. And Flames had one final where they lost and then won in 1989. Then another cup final. Canucks had two finals since. Habs had a conference final and Cup final. Oilers had three cup finals. Sens had one cup final. Not too shabby IMO. If the Oilers lose it's not bad luck or curse. They basically have two great players but not much else. Just a badly build team and it's been like this since the Kevin Lowe days.

Not sure it is curse, but it is not "logic" either. It is a big statistical anomaly, probability of a fraction of a percent

The lenght doesn't matter. You have Americans teams that have been there forever and have had little successes too. But they have 26 times more chances to have success.
There are 7 Canadian teams not 6.

Also, the statistical odds that a Canadian team should have won just one Stanley Cup in the last 32 years stands at…

99.98%

And when accounting for conference play… that number jumps to…

99.999999983%

My theory is that Canadian teams are built to awe and ooh fans during the regular season, but they are not built for the playoffs. By contrast, American teams treat the regular season as little more than a long practice period for the playoffs and thus are built for the playoffs when they finally arrive. Part of this is that Canadian teams build their teams top-heavy and rely almost entirely upon their core, who quickly get worn down, while American teams build their teams for depth and get decent production from all lines, and thus stay better rested.

I said it at the beginning of the playoffs, I want the non canucks canadian teams to go on deep runs because it keeps everyone in canada interested. I don't want them to win.

It can have a better chance of ending if this alignment is put in place:

I'm shocked Canadian media didn't mandate this as a requirement to keep the NHL on national Canadian TV.

But the new people in charge of Canada's government can pass a law requiring it.

As it stands, American teams already dominate the NFL, NBA, and MLB. In the former's case, the NFL isn't even in Canada out of respect for the CFL. America needs to let Canada have the NHL, given hockey is more popular in Canada than it is in the US, and it has not been since 2019 that a Snow Belt team won the Cup, let alone the finals be absent any Sun Belt team, seriously damaging the TV ratings over in America.
