Does LA have pieces to move if needed at the deadline?

As much as I dislike Stoll we aren't getting rid of our best faceoff guy. Not right now anyway. Same goes for trading Williams and breaking up our top line. Not right now.

Stoll is definitely overpaid and overused but I like what he brings. Remember DL said every team needs a few criminals and Stoll is ours. Borderline hits, he's always hacking and slashing at opponents hands. He's perfect for the team DL and Sutter have built. Speed, not afraid of the corners or the rough stuff, good faceoffs and PK.

Plus I remember the story of when Williams was skating towards the empty net to seal the cup for Carolina against Edmonton. Stoll was chasing after Williams and said he wanted to break Williams legs, don't have many people on the team that will go that far to win in my eyes

I am against trading Forbort. I don't like the idea of sitting on him for years and then trading him even if it's for equal value, and that is unlikely.

Trading Forbort now would be a terrible move. He's progressing, and Dean Lombardi has openly admitted that the organization has gotten weaker at that position, mainly due to so many of their D prospects graduating to the NHL and they've also lost some dmen over the years in trades or waivers. He's not someone you trade unless you get an unbelievable return. Dealing Forbort for a rental would be completely stupid.

They do, depending on how Greene and Mitchell progress. This team has shown how resilent they are, adjusting to the loss of two, then three D men and picking up their game and the points they need to stay ahead of the pack. However, in the next couple of weeks, if that changes, and he feels the need for a veteran top 4 D man , he'll have to pull the trigger.
I think Greene will rehab and get back, hopefully b4 the playoffs, given he hasn't played (no counting game 1) since last June, he'll need time to get his legs and timing back.
But Mitchell isn't even in the US. It doesn't look favorable for him to return, esp to the form he had all of last year thru the playoffs.
If DL feels this team needs a better D man to anchor that top 4, he'll act. I don't think he'd let that stand in the way of this team having a deep run.
Buffalo lost again and it won't be long before they become sellers. Leopold , Regehr and Sekera could be available.

I am not opposed to moving anyone at the trade deadline, but it depends on what the return is.

I just rarely see anything significant traded at the trade deadline.

No need to trade anybody

LAK on the trading market? No way. This team is just warming up, slowly but surely for the playoffs; getting better and into sync week after week. We have all the assets we need for a 2nd run in a row at the Cup. Quick-Bernier tandem in goal is what we need to get to the playoffs and JQ should be in full gear come playoff time. And since injuries are and remain a factor in today's hockey, 8 D-men will not be too much.

And don't forget: LAK is the youngest team in the NHL. :handclap:

You guys are ready to trade/waive anyone that has a stretch of bad games.

 So true. 10 games ago Jake Muzzin was fish food on these boards, now he's a top 4 D-man of the future.

Look at the debate over Bernier/Quick, based largely on 5 good games from Bernier and a slow start from Quick. It's unreal.

I just rarely see anything significant traded at the trade deadline.

Do you mean the actual trade deadline day, or the time leading up to it? I'd have to think both have seen significant players moved at the trade deadline. We got Williams on the trade deadline a few years ago.

Hence why I used the term "rarely" instead of "never".

Thanks I'll keep that in mind every time I disagree with you about something. :shakehead

Sure thing, smartarse :shakehead

The point is that if your review the trade deadlines (and the week or so leading up to it) you'll see likely a few players each year being dealt that are 'significant'. Last year with Hodgson and Zidlicky as an example.

May not be a need to make a big deal as hopefully the best deal we could make would be bringing back a healthy Greene and Mitchell.

Not really advocating trading Forbort but I'd listen to offers. I'm not as high on him as some are, I also think Gravel plays a similar game. I think Doughty, Voynov, and Martinez will probably be around for awhile. Muzzin has put in time and is playing well as of late. If Scuderi and Greene are resigned for another two or three years, how many realistic spots will there be. If we could move Forbort for a legit top six wing upgrade, I'd be willing.

I have a feeling DL is going to do something bold. I don't have any sources, just dingo intuition.

That's a HUGE "if". I don't see Scuderi re-signing with the players we have in the system without a serious cut in pay.

I think dean is going to try to re-live the carter gold he struck last year. I think a big deal happens at the deadline:

Just spitballing here so don't crucify me seriously just off the top of my head:
I can see a 3 way trade involving Calgary, LA and a BUYER.
LA: Iginla + Backup Goalie
CALGARY: Bernier + Buyer 1st Rounder +
BUYER: Penner or Stoll

We wouldhave to add big time to that. Right now we would get Iggy and back up for Bernier, and Penner or Stoll.

That actually seems pretty fair to me, if not an overpayment.

Iginla rental and backup goalie for a young cheap #1 goalie and Penner or Stoll.

Or we could keep him, develop him and in 2-3 years be faced with a situation similar to what we had with Johnson/Voynov. That worked out pretty good :)

So someone gives us a 1st rounder for Penner or Stoll?

Mike Milbury is a GM again?
