That's BS. He had the power to override everyone and pick Glass. But they picked Petterson. So you can't just put that on his CV.

And again , I'm not defending him. Just trying to be objective

Demko , Silovs , Forsling , Mccan , Boeser Hoglander. Only Mccan and Boeser was 1st round.

Mr Benning, everyone knows Trevor Linden had power over you. No need to pretend that you had the most power in the organization. I'm pretty sure Linden has basically said as much that he made the call to allow Brackett and the scouting department pick Petey over letting you pick Glass

Dubas can pitch himself to executives through being innovative and trying to be new. Same reason Chyka got hired. He can somewhat speak business/analysts talk. Probably why the org that hired him the 2nd time is owned by Fenway who always think back to Theo Epstein and being ahead of the curve. From what I've seen, Jim Benning would make a terrible snake-oils salesman, Dubas might be able to get through a couple towns before being killed.
I'd love to know what old western movie you've been watching, because I am so in the mood for it.

Jim Benning is probably the kindest, bravest, warmest, most selfless human being I've ever known.

Linden overrode him, which caused a power struggle and Aquilini sided with Dimbo.

Another funny one was Benning really wanted Conner Bleackley, but the Avs took him 1 pick before the Canucks and he defaulted to the scouts because it was his first year as GM. All of the struggles between Dimbo and the scouting department are fairly well documented/insinuiated over the years, with people like Brackett (responsible for US players like Boeser/Gaudette) and Palango (McCann) eventually leaving for greener pastures.

No he didn't. His boss was Trevor Linden at the time. Trevor Linden has literally gone on TV and said he had to intervene to give the scouts the autonomy to pick the player they wanted in Pettersson.

It is insane that anyone wants to still die on the hill that Benning and Delorme were the deciding factor in drafting Elias Pettersson.

To the question at hand, no, Jim Benning should not get a role at any level and is not only completely incompetent and stupid, but also a completely arrogant self-serving asshole who took no accountability or responsibility at any point of his disastrous tenure.

Worst GM in the last 30 years. I'd hire Milbury over him. I would literally hire a random fan off the street before him and expect a better performance.

And a big f*** you for executing the worst trade in franchise history right before getting fired. One that everyone knew would be crap and that Arizona fans were gloating about how bad they robbed us in it before it even was made official.

I hope he gets hired somewhere else and we take full advantage of the dumbest and most inept GM in decades.

People don't get that he had three of Pettersson/Hughes/Markstrom/Demko/Boeser making ELC amounts of money for three years. That's like 20 mil of cap advantage and is literally a once in a generation cap advantage for any franchise and the best he could do with that was finish bottom 10 every year except the one year where we were going to miss until covid play ins saved us. It's hard for the average fan to grasp how bad this is.

Didn't a Vancouver fan go back and look and if the nucks just drafted the player with the highest point total in the chl each time they were set to pick, they would have developed a better prospect pool than he created, or was that someone else ?

To be fair to Delorme, I think he was influential in that he probably sided with the scouts and the scouts wanted Pettersson. Not that Pettersson was a personal pick of his.

I agree, he drafted Petterson.

But McCann played 69 games in Vancouver and then this happed:

And drafting Forsling in the 5th round in 2014 and then doing this:

Means that Benning is unconnected to his later success. Vancouver didn’t development him and didn’t get much for him.
