Does it feel like 'it's happening' to anyone else?

One thing I like about how this seems to be coming together, is that there's still lots of help on the way. Detroit has a top prospect pool with high picks trending the right way like Danielson, COssa and ASP. They also have a lot of the wild card, later round picks that they'll probably get a player or two out of as well. Compared to a team like Ottawa who are a comparable team, all their horses are in the league and they look comparable to Detroit. They wings look like theyre a little depth scoring short of a really good team

Whether all the help makes it to the wings, or it can be used to trade for more NHL ready help. Its a good problem to have.

All the talk about the wings being short a superstar need to stop with how good Raymond is, and Seider for that matter. They have 2 superstars already.
It's amazing how over a section of games, and I'll give an arbitrary number here (5), Raymond continues to look better and better. We have all been watching his growth rapidly increase since the middle of last season. Last year I would have been happy with a 70+, two way winger, who was clearly clutch. I really think we are just now seeing his true potential, and he's a game breaker.

Let's not overlook the fact that, among our regular forwards, we have only 2 that are in the black in the plus/minus Stat- Compher at +4, and Copp at +2. I know we expect more from them based on their contracts, but they do provide value to the team.

Let's not overlook the fact that, within the plus/minus Stat, DeBrincat is the worst on the team at -14. I know he produces on the PP, but 5x5, he isn't very good.
Or Dcat was on the ice for a large percentage of the empty net situations while the team was losing..........

As much as I've been rooting for Copp lately, the team still needs an upgrade at that 2C slot. I'm only cheering for Copp because I want the team to win, I still think he sucks. Not sure if Danielson is the answer.

Considering they seemingly was working on a Cozens trade. Seems they might look externally to sort that 2C slot, at least short term until Kasper or Danielson is ready for that.

The emergence of AlJo has been key for me to feel good about where the team is. As far as I know, there isn't another team in the league with a defensive trio in their 20's doing the heavy lifting...and looking pretty competent doing it.

I'm being told there's an update to this topic from our holiday correspondent... and here's the latest for whether it is indeed happening:

Same, he's the best option we have for now but an upgrade would be nice. If not Danielson, I don't really see anyone else on the team stepping up and being a more productive 2C than Copp has been. Worth riding out for the time being because we're winning and Kane is likely back soon. Kane was on a tear before injury, hoping he comes back with similar production.

Danielson, as good as I think he will eventually be, needs to stay in GR right now. He hasn't produced much recently, and the Griffs had a horrible weekend. He needs to plays some more things out down there.

I could see him hitting the big squad next year in a similar fashion to how Kasper did this year.

Clone Todd, send the clone to GR, problem fixed.

No. I do not feel it’s happening. I don’t get joy from sports anymore. If I buy in, it means that they will lose.

I really question our pro scouting if they think Cozens is a 2nd line center. I think one of the things he is struggling with is that he is a winger. I saw his rumored acquisition as what they wound up doing with Kasper on the Larkin line. I think Cozens offense struggles with center deployment. I am not against acquiring him, I just hope it is to unleash his forechecking prowess, physicality and goal scoring ability. My opinion is he does all of those better at the wing. If you put him with a lefty draw he can also split faceoff duties.

I think there is lots to like about his game, just unless you want a #3C shutdown center I think you probably look elsewhere for that #2C, especially at the cost to acquire Cozens and his price tag. As much as we can hate on Copp or Compher, they are not pushing up in the 7 millions for their half a point a game center duties.

When ASP , Danielson are on the team next year lighting it up and we sign Marner (semi joking)don't come back around lol. My only gripe was we should have sold. It is what it is. I've already written off this season.

The same Danielson that is "lighting up" the AHL with 7 goals in 55 games, while getting top 6 minutes and powerplay time all year? Can't wait to watch him light it up!

You rather trade him for Laughton?
no...?

I'm not entirely sure how you made that conclusion from what I wrote?

My point has nothing to do with trades, or with Scott Laughton, but if you're expecting Nate Danielson to step right into the NHL and "light it up", you may wanna lower your expectations considering he is far from lighting up a lesser league.

I would’ve really liked to have seen Kane and Tarasenko moved. I don’t know what could’ve been gotten for them but it seemed like a sellers market.

I rather run with our prospects than hasty moves at the deadline to appease antsy fans is my point.

I really like our core. I really like a lot of our young pieces.

I cannot for the life of me fathom how you're six years in and three years of flirting with the playoffs and you're just like "meh". You went hard and extended Raymond, Seider, Larkin, and DeBrincat. You've had a roster that when healthy actually performs like a playoff roster more often than not. You just don't do a f***ing thing to build any depth. Last year, Larkin died for about 3 weeks and it cost the Wings the playoffs. Now, Rasmussen and Copp have died. And playoffs are on life support agian.

Every year can't be "aw shucks boys, we just got too hurt." Lions had damn near their entire defense catastrophically go on the shelf. They kept going and finished 15-2 in their season. Yeah, they lost in the playoffs... but they kept going and kept going no matter who died and tried adding pieces to keep going. The Red Wings aren't doing that. Different sport to be sure, but so often the Wings have withered on the vine when someone gets hurt and the Lions, our cursed team, lost their best player, their 1 LB, 1CB, and 1DT and kept going.

Yzerman needs to get his head out of his ass pretty quick or he's going the way of Alan Trammell.

By 'it's happening', I mean the rebuild really coming to fruition. With coaching that is no longer stifling everyone, this team is able to be dangerous night in night out now. And the drafted players are the ones stirring the drink.

Raymond is a budding superstar, he tilts the ice every time he's out there. Not only is he supremely skilled, he's also a natural leader. With a killer instinct to boot.

Seider. Well nothing needs to be said there.

Edvinsson is already a skilled and dependable dman who can play a 200ft game, and he's still got lots of NHL development runway left in front of him. He's going to be a star.

Johansson is looking like he's the missing piece to completing the top 4 (with ASP having that 3D spot reserved). He plays a simple but cerebral game at both ends of the ice, Lidstrom-like in that way (a stylistic comparison not skill, obviously). Just very competent and dependable. Seems like a perfect partner for Seider honestly, with Edvinsson and ASP the other pair eventually. But he's looked great beside Edvinsson and the positive impact goes both way I think.

Kasper seems to have repeated the trajectory he had in the AHL, slow start but found his footing about halfway through the season. He's looked dangerous since McLellan took over. Always seems to be in the thick of things, and very versatile as a player. Looks like another good one. I forget who posted a comment (might have been @Petes2424) talking about the importance of a young player showing showing flashes, even if the production wasn't there yet. It was a really good point. Now not only is Kasper showing even more frequent flashes, the statistical production is coming with it. And like Edvinsson he also has lots of runway left.

Berggren and Soderblom have shown flashes of being middle 6 contributors, even if the production hasn't come yet.

Now Larkin finally has a respectable supporting cast, including some key additions like Debrincat, and this team is already starting to show the potential of it's 'final form'. And we haven't even gotten to ASP, Cossa, Buchelnikov, Danielson, MBN, Augustine, etc, etc, etc who will all be getting worked in over the next couple seasons.

After 5+ years, and with some folks around here nearing the end of their patience, the rebuild is here. I think sooner than later there are going to be a lot of people on HFBoards eating crow and pretending they were never talking shit about tHE yZErpLAn. I'm going to enjoy watching the final pieces fall into place as this team trends to be a major competitor within 2-3 seasons. LGRW :yo:
Elmer Soderblom have the highest even strength P/60 in Detroit Red Wings (2.231), second is Lucas Raymond (2.162). They are the only Red Wings forwards that have top six production (>2.0 P/60). He is very much a potential top 6 forward for the Red Wings.

I thought we all knew that "the window" doesn't really open until nest season or the season after?

They have a solid core and (I think) all the young guys brought up are doing well. Talbot-Lyon is clearly a holding pattern until Cossa can be brought up to NHL speed. Then the plugtracts all start to go away and skilled guys will be eager to come play for the team.

I still think there's one last push left in this team from this season. Dunno where it comes from, but for a team that essentially flushed its first half of the season down the crapper, Detroit's been great.
