Seguin, Benn, Duchene, Granlund?

Because he doesn't know how taxes work and that Texas is the 12th most taxed state. He must think income tax is the only tax states have the power to collect

This. As a Canadian who lived in Houston for 20 years, I can tell you the tax load is no different in Houston; in fact, I think I had more take-home living in Canada. I've since moved to Saudi Arabia, and now pay zero tax!!! Woot woot!!

Also, do you think these guys are just putting their money in the bank and filing taxes at the end of the year? They all have Wealth Managers who know every loophole in the tax code. I mean, I make an 8th of the AVERAGE NHL player, and once I started using one, my wealth vastly improved. Should have done it from the start.

Agreed

Dallas 3rd line is easily a 2nd line on a lot of NHL teams.

Duchene is still a top 6 player. He's well worth his contract. Can play C too if needed. Fits in Dallas perfectly.

Granlund is a good #2C or a high end #3C. He's even better than Lundell. I can't think of any other team that has a better #3C than Dallas.

Benn isn't the player he once was but hes still an asset in the playoffs. Plays a heavy game and can play in the top 6 if needed. Very effective in a bottom 6 role.

There are no weaknesses in Dallas forward group.

Hintz isn’t a top tier C so how’s that not a weakness?

That’s a top 2/3 forward group clearly in the league and easily good enough to win the Cup

But

A) it’s not the best in the leagua
B) it lacks thag superstar C

Proof will be in the pudding and the Stars sure look like they’re going to have to play the Avs in round one of the playoffs with Minny (injuries) falling off and the Avs coming on. That 2 Vs 3 matchup is going to be nasty.

Florida had the best 3rd line in the league last year and was a major reason they won

This year they are even deeper at F

Floridas top9 is a top9 that doesn’t have a weakness, it’s more skilled than Dallas’, it’s more versatile, better defensively, physical

Outside of Marchand they are all under 30 and in their primes. Dallas has Seguin, Benn, Dadonov, Duchene in their top9 who are past their prime

Verhaeghe- Barkov- Reinhart

Dallas doesn’t touch that

Marchand- Bennett- Tkachuk

Dallas doesn’t touch that

3rd line is close

So no way can you say Dallas has a better top9

& weak link is not having a superstar 1C, like Mackinnon, like Barkov, like McDavid.
Robertson has been also too much of a complimentary player. I take this current Reinhart over Robertson any day, superior 2way play and performs when it matters

Vs any other team I take Dallas top9

With Marchand in Florida it’s easy
I‘m not even sure, if Marchand really makes them that much better…BUT…in the playoffs, if a game is tight, maybe in OT, there are two players I‘d love to have in front of the goalie…Crosby or Marchand. And Marchand is even better stirring the pot and getting under the opponent‘s skin…and that‘s even without his superior tongue play.

I don’t have an in depth understanding of taxes. What other taxes would be relevant to a players salary besides income taxes? Genuinely curious how much taxes affect where players sign.

It looks like both in the East and West we are going to see 1st round match ups that should be the finals

One of the players Florida added last year was Okposo, now they added Marchand and kept all the regulars from last season

If Tkachuk comes back for 1st round there’s not a single weakness you can attack on that forward group.
Marchand- Bennett- Tkachuk is going to be an all timer

They can be more physical than you, they are more skilled than you and they are elite defensively as well

such a gimmick by the NHL to seed the playoffs like they do. Dilute the later rounds to encourage division rival matchups early. Lame.

I can see how it might have come off like that, but I was suggesting that he's more of a ppg player and not 70 or less given that he never scores at that pace. I'm not the one that brought up a 30 game stretch though

He's not in the tier that Barkov's in. He'd have to be there or higher for Dallas' group to be better than Florida's.
Oh yeah for sure not as good as Barkov I forgot about him

It's definitely an elite top 9 in terms of skill/offense but grit is not something they have and should be grouped in with the other traits.

Dallas is still one of the league's softest teams and the softest playoff team imo

They can easily still get to the Stanley Cup with the talent they have, so grit may not be needed. But I think we need to have a conversation about how soft their top players are if they choke this post-season

This is true, but Dallas is patterned after the Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom/Rafalski Wings where Jim Nill learned about team-building. They don't care about grit or toughness, they're going to try to out-finesse you with waves of talent and offset that with big bodies on defense.

People bagged on Dallas for years for lacking a superstar on the team. Well they have one now. I can see Rantanen back to 50 goal 100pt form again. He's going to have top tier talent on his line regardless if he's on line 1 or 2.

He achieved those numbers with Mackinnon on his line and playing on the PP with Makar also. I’m skeptical that he’s going to have that kind of talent to get him back to those numbers.
