He was fantastic in Game 1, set up the OT winner in Game 2 to take control of the series, and was great in Game 6. More notably, he was better than Kessel in the SCFs, the other CS favourite going into the SCF

With you being an Oilers fan it's understandable that you don't recognize what winning, defensive hockey looks like. That Crosby's line, consisting of a career 3rd liner and an AHL callup who terrible defensively, was able to shut down the Sharks elite #1 line while eating up the minutes of one of the best defenseman in the league was a major factor in that series.

The Pens were a machine that year. There weren't too many games where they were outshototing the other team by 25%.

As a rookie, Murray was very impressive but he wasn't close to an obvious CS win.
Murray was in the middle of breaking Ken Dryden records that year. It was the first time they had a goalie who you KNEW was dependable every night. He was definitely deserving of the votes he got.

Didn't say he wasn't deserving of the votes he got but that his performance gets overrated because he was rookie. He wasn't close to being on the same level as other CS winning goalies like Quick or Thomas.

He was a big part of the Pens machine that year but didn't get overlooked for the CS due to the Crosby factor.

In 2016 Crosby was outplaying his hard matchups heavily with a 58% shot and expected goal share, but suffered from both a poor on-ice shooting percentage which limited his production and a poor on-ice save percentage which hurt his plus minus. Obviously you want your stars to produce and you can’t just focus on expected numbers, which is why it was a close vote (it wouldn’t have been if he had any puck luck), but wearing down the others team’s best by outplaying them and essentially sawing them off 5v5 (he was on for 16 GF and 18 GA) is still hugely valuable in allowing the other offensive players to shine. It’s funny that 2017 gets brought up a lot in terms of a deserving year when I think he played better in 2016, the pucks just weren’t going in.

Nobody said that, so I’m not sure who you’re trying to make that point to.
