Clowe was absolutely terrible to start the season but I have to give him props for his recent play. He has the build to be a netfront presence but would instead park his stationary butt on the boards, but lately he's been going to the net consistently. He's also getting really good scoring chances just not the payoff.

The smart thing to do though is trade him while there is peaking demand out east for him. Either that or lock him up for a huge hometown discount now, something south of 3 million, which is almost certainly not happening.

Outside of the last minute penalty today any scouts/GM's in the game have to be happy with how Clowe looked. He had good chances and fought hard.

I was thinking the same thing tonight about scouts. While BOS/NYR/MON and whoever else's fans may complain about Clowe's 0 goals, tonight showed he was getting his chances and took quality shots. From a scout's POV, for a team like Boston (For example), you've got to be reporting back that this guy looks pretty good, all things considered.

I mean, you can just see Clowe being traded to a Boston and in his first couple of games there, new scenery and jacked from the trade, teeing off for several goals (probably instantly making the Sharks fan Clowe lovers mad)

Anyone remember Steve Bernier's first game as Buffalo Sabre after the Sharks dealt him?

I agree with all of this except that tonight I kept yelling at him (in my head, of course) to get in front of the net—he was hanging around the boards too much, thinking he was a sniper all game. Granted, he did get an awesome one-timer chance.

Does anyone else want to blame the Todd a little bit here? I feel like someone should be telling him to just get in front of the net and screen and get the dirty chances. Maybe he is just too slow back to his own net.

His best chances were in front of the net. Hes going to the net. Not everyone is Tomas Holmstrom. Clowe is a much better player than he ever was.

You have to create time and space to get to the net. With Couture, Clowe was trying to be that creator. Couture can't hold the puck that long and they weren't generally using Havlat to do it. Ideally with Clowe/Couture/Havlat, they would have had Clowe doing F1/netfront, Havlat F2 and Couture as F3/sniper. It didn't work out that way primarily because Clowe wasn't fast enough to do F1. With Clowe as F1, the F2 has to hold for a while to get Clowe to the net due to speed issues.

The mention of Holmstrom was interesting because he was also slow. But he went right to the net after the initial puck recovery and his linemates frequently carried the line or used very soft chips (self recovery) to avoid the need for an F1. Holmstrom spent relatively little time on the boards battling for pucks.

As for SJ's Ryane Clowe, he has not yet been asked to waive his NTC and he has not provided any list of teams he would be traded to, but...

...Clowe's agent has been heavily involved with Sharks in determining a potential landing spot. Still some work to be done.

Still isn't clear to anyone yet whether SJ will be trading Clowe as a pending UFA (rental) or a guy with his extension pre-arranged.

I suspect all involved in Clowe situation will work today to advance process but whether it results in imminent trade remains to be seen.

So sounds like there may be some truth to that Garrioch report that this may become a sign and trade. Win-win. Clowe gets the comfort of knowing he wont have to move again in a few months and DW can squeeze more out of teams

Hoping there is a body coming our way in a Clowe or other move in the works as the drag would be (for this season), if nobody coming our way via a Clowe or other deal, would be the full time return of Burish and/or Handzus. THAT would be brutal.

Its going to be Montreal. Clowe played in Q, closer to his family and their GM said he isnt willing to part with young assets for a rental..well how about a signed Clowe?

Or, if its the Habs, I'll take a 1st and Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk, last year's 3rd overall pick, is already in the NHL.

I know we can't talk Galchenyuk if Clowe is a rental, but a signed Clowe? Maybe a swap? I would take a swap, and you know how Doug Wilson loves loading the team with players whose natural position in C.

You are kidding, right? Like, you forgot the :sarcasm:, right? Because there's not a player on this team outside of maaaaybee Couture that Montreal would even consider trading Galchenyuk for. :shakehead
