That's just it. I don't see what the coaching missteps are. People mention the Jeff Skinner thing, but every coach has their odd decision like that and it's probably for a good reason. Every issue we have is connected to personnel, and that's not on Knoblauch

Regardless of those things, he coaches the right style to win a cup with: a dedicated zone defense. He succeeded with it where Woody failed, and I don't trust that any replacement we'd get would be any better.

Also it's just total madness to consider a coaching change now and the optics of that are terrible. There just isn't a reason to do so. We have lost a few games but it's obviously because of injury, and we haven't even lost all these games. We even beat Vegas in this span.
Way more concerned about the same mistake after same mistake ad nauseum by Bouchard with zero repercussions than Skinner. Skinner is signing with someone else this summer, Bouchard could be a long term problem with a big cap hit, to make Nurse's struggles look like small potatoes.

Also zone defense may be fun and boosts the CF% and goal share but there are constant breakdowns every game by both defensemen and forwards. In the postseason, games are decided by moments, not accumulated metrics over 15-20 games to give enough of a sample size to deduce anything.

Nobody wants a change now, but more in the offseason barring a long playoff run.

I don't think we'd fire Knoblauch even if we are swept. Things were way worse before, with Vegas laughing at how easy it was to slice through our man to man defense. The breakdowns were so much worse before. I believe it is a character of the players we have. The breakdowns happen when they don't follow the system.

Bouchard is the most underrated player here. He makes awful mistakes but he's one of the best transition players in the league, and in the playoffs he has shown he can tighten up his game. He was better than Ekholm in the playoffs, with all upside and almost none of the downside.
He's still young so he should get all the minutes he can handle so we can develop him to be better and better.

If we'd get a new coach, I have little doubt they'd also go with Bouchard as much as possible, and might have head scratching decisions like Knob's treatment of Skinner. There would be defensive breakdowns too, and they would be just as glaring if that new coach would be handed the same crappy goalies

Firing the coach is laughable.

With the injuries and goaltending this team has had - Knob has done a good job IMO.

A top 10 goalie and some health and this team probably wins the presidents trophy.

Plus, I am saving all my rage for when the GM goes into next season with Skinner as 1a.
