Do You Remember Where you Were When We Traded for Richards?

I was driving back to the shop I work at and got an alert that said kings trade for richards, I didn't open it at that time and thought we had aqiured the other richards rights and thought we are at least agressive in trying to sign him, when I got to my desk I went to lakings.com to see what we had given up, HOLY CRAP WE GOT MIKE RICHARDS...and called my sons to celebrate, he made us at least contenders was the first thing I thought and did he ever, lol, losing simmonds and schenn suxed but if schenn has a great career he will be MR like and can someone tell me why there is an advertisement for ducks/hawks game on the lakings future site, no respect I tell ya no respect

I remember the Richards trade vividly. I was sitting at my computer at work, had some downtime, loaded LAKingsinsider and saw a headline of "Mike Richards to Kings". My jaw literally hit the floor. Immediately tried to get on to HF but it had crashed. Went back to Insider and sifted through the comments section until the news of Simmonds and Schenn going the other way came out. It just all seemed so surreal - Lombardi had never made a trade of that magnitude.

I remember the Carter trade less vividly. There had been rumors all day on Twitter and HF of Carter being moved for Johnson. I remember it took a long time for official confirmation, which turned out to be a hiccup with the 1st rounder.

I remember where I was when I found out we had traded for Smyth, too.

I think Ziggy Stardust sent me a text message as I was waking up from a nap after partying in Vegas at the NHL Awards for the last two days.

Shocked because no one at the Awards talked about anything like it.

I was on tour doing lights for the band Yellowcard, had a day off in Jacksonville on the beach, when i get a text from my good friend whos a newbie kings fan.

his text read
"so is this mike richards guy any good?"

i packed up all my **** off the beach and jammed straight to the hotel room where i was on the computer for the next 12 hours reading everything on the web about this trade.

I was at a carwash when I got a phone call from one of my friends telling me about the trades and I said to my friend "Damn we gave up Schenn and Simmonds......Dude we just got Mike Richards hahaha".

Reading some of those old threads are pure gold. In the end, talent/scoring-wise, Philly did quite well in both trades. But in the end, they didn't get better, which is the point, I would think. Their defense is in shambles and Bryz was not the answer in net. Then they ended up trading JVR for L Schenn.

I actually think it's funny when I read our projected lineups from the trade, too. Looking back now, with names like Parse, Richardson and even Smyth in some cases in the lineup projections, those were a joke compared to the lineup that was iced in the Finals. The roster we're icing now is a lot more talented, yet even then, people outside of us Kings fans thought we were contenders. Funny how time changes things. Now to some, the 2012 Kings were the worst Cup winning team in a decade :sarcasm:. That's the kind of back lash your team gets after going 16-4 in the playoffs. :naughty:

I was grabbing lunch with my Dad and the Kings sent out the email. My first reaction was "Oh **** they traded Wayne, Why do guys who's jerseys I have always get traded". Then I realized we got Richards and I was excited.

it's always a shock whenever the kings make the news. Even more when the Kings are involved in a blockbuster trade. Then add that they acquired the face of another franchise, and it's jaw dropping. Like eveyrone else, I assumed it was Brad Richards, couldn't bend my mind around Richards getting traded, but I was ecstatic. DL is right, he's a once in a lifetime player, these guys just don't go up for sale. Sad Simmonds was traded though, kind of saw him as a lifer.

Richards was always one of my favorite players of the 2003 draft. I was so happy he dropped so low until, of course, I threw the Hockey news 2003 draft preview at the wall when the FLyers picked him up. On hindsight, DT was just too damn passive. Why he didn't move up and how he mucked up those last 2 picks is beyond me.

I wonder how many people would get this without googling. What does Rob Bordson have to do with all of this?

on a business trip to Colorado. i was in the car riding shotgun from Denver down to the Springs. i pulled up Insider and what followed was a chorus of WTF, holy ****, WTF, holy ****. at first i was pissed they traded Schenn and Simmonds. i love watching Night Train play and was eagerly awaiting for LA to finally have a top tier talent. after all the years of ****** top picks not panning out, i couldn't wait to see what Schenn would bring.

i knew what we got in Richards and was ecstatic to get him. he filled the much needed #2C role and brought with him a great resume of intangibles and talent. took me a few days to get over the shock value

Richards trade is only the second time i was left shocked. the first time was that guy from EDM back in '88. both trades to me are culture changing events to the team. both guys are responsible for causing a major shift in attitude of how the team would compete each night
