Do You Remember Where you Were When We Traded for Richards?

Richards: Driving home from the market and got an email on my phone. I had a weird feeling so I pulled over. Opened the email and it says "LA Kings Strike! Kings acquire Mike Richards from Philadelpgia in blackbuster deal!" My jaw literally dropped for what felt like over a minute. When I finally picked it up I believe I yelled "Holy **** Dean!" Like it was yesterday.

Carter: Doing some shopping with a buddy of mine (bromance, lol). I heard the rumblings all day and I know we all knew Dean was going to pull the trigger on a big move, offense obviously. I got a notification on my phone "Kings acquire Jeff Carter for Jack Johnson and a First Round Pick!" I almost broke down into tears  I've always loved his game and was so pumped he was in a Kings sweater. The rest is history!

I was in Vegas...didn't drop money on the Kings the night before, and when I went the day OF the trade to check, odds had dropped from something extremely favorable (was it like 50-1?) to 8-1

Oh, how that 300 bucks could have gone soooo much further...

The Carter trade was something I was waiting for days to see. It was inevitable that Jack would get traded for him, but I was curious to see if more would be sent Columbus way in that exchange.

I saw it on LA Kings Insider and I remember being really bummed that we lost Simmer but at the same time I was like "Mike Richards! Yes! Brownie and Richie hitting people! **** yes!"

I was in flight school; finished my flights for the morning and popped on HF before I hit the books in the afternoon. I nearly crapped my pants.

Was at school, don't have a smart phone and no one cared about hockey to tell me so when I logged onto the forms I was already a few hours behind. I started freaking out and also nervous because we traded a lot for him, then called my brother and started freaking out to him. Lot of mixed emotions but mostly excited.

(In Philly) It was just after 4 pm and I was coming from a meeting and got to my desk and three of the young guys (interns) were huddled around it . Carter was expected and the rumor was leaked and we knew about for awhile. But I knew when I saw their shocked faces somethng was bad wrong. Before the one guy (a huge hockey fan ) could even open his mouth** I shook my head and said "No..no..." and he said' yeah, Richie's gone, (Bleeper) traded him to the Kings.
**(He and I had a lively and heated debate from the time the season ended because the night that the Bruins won the 4t game, Ed Snider was overheard by a local sports reporter who said Ed (of Richards) "I want him gone!" (blaming him for the playoff failure) I assumed Ed was just getting older, more irrational and blowing off steam . Boy was I wrong)

Well that was the only good thing, I love the kings (since Luc's days) and liked Lombardi from his Flyers days. He loved Richie and would practically droll talking about him. So i knew Richie was in good hands. Also, Richards was very close to John Stevens, (Stevens said Richards is like a son to him) and was devastated when Stevens was fired.

Fortunately, it was the end of the day, so I left work early. I was that upset that I'd never see him lift tyhe Cup as a Flyer. First player (since my days following the team) since Clarke that had the right 'stuff'. The stuff that champions have that you can't readily identify but you know it when you see it.
I thought...well, LA will get that Cup...good foir Richie. He's with a better team, a better (Pronger free )locker room .

And the rest is history...and I love the Kings and they became my team at 4pm June 23, 2011

And the Flyers are a hot mess...again.

I was living in my old house. Woke up at 3 am because we had a huge concrete pour. I'd only watched mikes YouTube oh "the shift" a week prior. Hopped onto the message boards and was gob smacked. Seriously. Thought we paid a fair price. You have to give to get though. Well not with Columbus but most teams. Anyway I skreeded the worst slab in history that day. Hardened in Deans honour

I didn't see the news until early morning local Copenhagen time. I was plenty stoked to see Richards arrive. Felt like an ideal #2 center that allow everybody to be slotted in to their proper positions rather than trying to ask too much from certain players.

Replacing Schenn with Richards at the center position felt like the whole team was fastforwarded 3 years or something. hated losing Simmonds though. Love the feisty types who plays hard, can score and fight.

With the Cup succes in 2012, this will forever be a winning trade. Nothing can change that.

BUT, just for pure speculation ... how would we feel about this trade if the Kings did NOT win the cup last year. Had they failed to make the playoffs in those last games - or bowed out of the playoffs in the first or second round. With Simmonds potting 39 goals as a Flyer so far, and Schenn starting to get points, Richards injuries. Not sure we'd be too happy.

I would be feeling just fine. The Kings are top ten in both goals for and against this year and look to be a serious contender. Besides, as much as Schenn has been putting-up points lately, his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the Kings wouldn't be a serious contender at this point with either Schenn or Stoll playing second line center. Meanwhile, there are rumors of problems in the Flyers locker room again (http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1371987)

Philly's reaction to the Mike Richards trade lol

It seriously hurts to even think about. I loved the Flyers since I was a little girl. I just wanted an awesome goalie to root for. I had this image in my head of Richards skating around with the cup in Philly. They just needed a goalie and some D.

A lot of people were upset in that thread but a lot were also happy since they bought into the whole locker room cancer thing. In fact this Flyers messageboard was the only one that wasn't 90% for the trade.

It just made me sick that so little people were truly upset about this after the heart and soul he poured into the organization. After giving him a standing ovation when he came back he was booed every time he touched the puck something supposed to be reserved only for the most hated enemies.

Carter and Richards deserved better. Lombardi and Hextall were the smart ones, getting out of an organization run by a senile Ed Snider. I'm so happy to see them with the Kings now. To see fans cheer for Carter every time he touches the puck is awesome. To see people appreciate Richards hard work even if he doesn't score is also awesome. Seriously, screw any Flyers fans who wanted these two gone. They are amazing players and champions.

I remember I was in the surgery suite pretty much all day, no radio, no tv, and even if I did have either around it wouldn't have been sports news I would have heard. Got back to my desk at like 5:30 and checked TSN and almost passed out from shock when I saw both Carter and Richards had been traded and that Richie was a King.

In the car. My friend called me and I was so pissed because the Flyers were my only team and he was my favourite player. My facebook page, along with that of a few of my Flyer friends' pages had nothing but 4 letter words directed at Holmgren and Snider for weeks after that!

Some of those words continue today. :D

I was in my office when I heard Carter was traded, then I started seeing rumours of Richie gone. When it was confirmed, I didn't know what to do first - swear, yell, cry, arrange a trip to Philly to bomb Holmgren's office, etc.

A co-worker stuck his head in my office and asked if I heard that Carter was traded. I said "that's not all - that ******* just ****ing traded Richards". Perhaps not my most professional moment... LOL.

I've been a Flyer fan since I was a kid but the moves the team has made in just the past few years have made it very hard to like a whole lot of the team. I've been a Richards fan since his first OHL game, and I like the way the Kings play and the way Lombardi has built the team, so I find I've gotten more emotionally invested in Kings wins and losses than I am in the Flyers in the time since the trade.

I do, I was about to get into the shower and I was on my laptop. I decided to refresh my twitter one last time before getting into the shower, I saw a tweet by Bobby Mac that we had traded for Richards... Here's where things start to get a bit embarrassing: I started bouncing all over the ****ing walls while naked. Certainly an interesting place to find out to say the least, does anyone else remember where they were when they trade was announced?

Bob Mckenzie didn't break the trade, it was Gord Miller.

I was playing CoD with some buddies and started yelling hahaha they were all scared and didn't know wtf was going on. Told them about it and they started going crazy too! Great day, great day!

LOL, they sure do! I am with you, though, I find I don't make time for the Flyer games anymore but I do for LA. It's making a mess of my sleep schedule but there is so much to like about the Kings from management on down. The Flyers' brass could learn a lot about their model. How ironic is it that Dean learnt so much from them and it got him a Cup.

They never learn, always looking for the quick fix, trying to buy a championship rather than build one (like DL did).
Look at the parade or young talent we gave up in recent years, from Seidenberg and P. Sharpe thru JVR and Bob. THis morning I'm reading scary rumors that Homer is 'aggressively ' seeking b oth Yandle and Jay Bo. WHich means he'll make another piss poor move and we'll lose Couturier, who with 3 more years of experience and 20 lbls or so of muscle, will be one of the top 2 way centers in the game.
Homer never learns...so hard to like this team, very hard.

I didn't say he broke the trade, I said I saw he reported it.. :dunno:

My whole family still loves them despite complaining about all their decisions. I don't know how you guys can stand it anymore. When I go with my dad and brother to Flyers games, I just sit there and laugh.

Maybe thats why they don't invite me anymore :dunno:
