Hockey-wise, it was pretty solid. I thought it started off kind of slow, but as the tournament went on, I enjoyed it more-and-more. The best games for me were Canada/Finland and Finland/Russia; the most intensity and really kept you guessing. I managed to see seven full games (Can x3, Fin/Slov, QF/SF/F), and parts of three others (Cze/Blr, Rus/Den, USA/Swe). There wasn't really a game I didn't like, though the Canadian games were stressful at times.
Off the ice, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fans were incredible, even non-Canadian ones. The Finnish fans would always welcome me to the games when I had my Canadian jersey on. While there was a lot of between-team rival going on, there wasn't any real hatred, which was neat. Actually, I think the most upset anyone got at us was another Canadian because we weren't cheering loud enough during the Sweden game
The staff at both rinks were great; explained everything you weren't sure of. There were some mild language barriers, but nothing that couldn't be over-come.
I stayed away from downtown in terms of accommodation and it was a great choice. The hotel staff was A+, as were everyone I talked to nearby at stores/restaurants. Heck, I went to one restaurant enough that, when I told them I was leaving two days later, they gave me a free side dish and drink. I won't name them, as I don't know if that's legal on this board, but it was certainly hugely appreciated. I already miss their burgers
The only negative aspect to the entire trip was the tourists who didn't seem to have great manners. They were very "I'm here, you'll move", which isn't something I'm used to. Had numerous people push me aside to get what they wanted. Oh well...you live with it. Not like I was ever really in a rush.
Loved the city, loved the people, loved the hockey. I would have loved to have seen Canada win it all, but having the Finns win was a very nice 1B. Being second row behind the net were the GWG goal was scored...beauty! Looking forward to going back down the road.
