Pros: We need to find some way to generate offensive chances and he's a guy who could get shots through from the point. Plus having a young guy running on adrenaline may be the boost we need to win a game.

Cons: He's young and might suck.

Yes but maybe I'd go 7D if we do. I suspect we'll have Hamonic in the lineup on Saturday instead.

For fun I probably would. Does he really hurt you more than the Finnish icing machine?

Hard to imagine an ultra conservative coach like Green even considering it for a second.

Nah, he’s not ready and Matinpalo has been fine. He’s not coming in for Jensen (he’s been rough out there but has also pushed through an injury for half the year to help us - no logic in sitting him now), and obviously he’s not replacing Zub.

It’s just unnecessary. He’s not like a Sanderson where you knew he’d be a top 4 D his first game in the NHL, Yak needs some refining and this is not the situation to throw him into.

Leevi, Yak, get em all in there.

What would be the argument against?
Go down with the guys who brought you there, which is why I think Hamonic gets in.

I know Leevi helped, but that would just create a controversy all summer. Not what we need.

Why not just give experience to players who will be here past this summer. Without Leevi stepping up we aren't even in the playoffs.

They aren't going to undercut Ullmark now - that window closed. The real question with him is: how long is his leash if we're back in the ploffs next year?

Has he really earned another game though? Bruins didn't wait this long.

The hell with it, series is likely done anyways but he didn't do much for Calgary in the WHL playoffs so not sure if he would be of much help in the NHL playoffs.

We don't have the equivalent of Swayman.

Merilainen has played 12 NHL games.

Forsberg has been very good the last few months, short of one or two stinkers, but he is also Anton Forsberg
Matt Murray and Cam Ward were not even rookies when they stepped in.

f*** it, see what happens with Leevi. There’s very little chance Ullmark is going to put up .900 on Saturday so there’s really nothing to lose.

Ullmark doesn't really deserve another game, no - but he's going to get it. And he'll probably allow 4 goals on 22 shots in a loss or something like that.

It's a bit of a different situation here than it was in Boston. He was never the guy for them the way he was for us this season. The Sens have committed a lot of money and term to this guy, so for now he gets to run with the ball even if he doesn't really deserve to.

But in the future the leash is short; and in fact I'd guess it's one game. Just can't ignore the track record any longer.

I am not debating that if Travis Green has a gut feeling and wants to go with Merilainen that he shouldn't do it. I am only pointing out that it's not at all comparable to Ullmark going out and Swayman coming in.
