Do they have a chance? Yeah sure but I'm not as confident as you guys seem to be. In 2012 they acquired Carter and that made all the difference, they win the cup. In 2013 they get Regehr and make a WCF run. 2014 they acquire Gaborik and the guy almost breaks Gretzky's playoff goals record, they win the cup. 2015 they acquire Sekera, if he stays healthy they probably make another deep run but they end up missing the playoffs all together. All those years everything the Kings needed they had, all they were missing was 1 piece.

January 20th, 2016, Kings are in 1st place with a 12 point dvision lead and even tho it's January, a month that usually sucks for the Kings, they seem to be cruising. Fast forward a month to current day and the Kings have a 2 point in the division and are possibly a few games away from falling to 3rd place with a 10point lead for the over the Yotes for a playoff spot. Now Gaborik is injured and Kopitar just got hurt and we don't even know for how long. I'm just going to assume Kopitar will miss a few games but probably 1 or maybe none but we don't have anyone in the system to replace Gaborik at this moment. The guy looked like he was on his way to 20 goals which isn't so bad.

Now the Kings have already acquired 2 guys which is more than they ever needed for a cup run in the past few years and now it looks like they'll need to acquire 1 more, possibly 2 more and they don't even have the assets to do it so we're all just hoping DL pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

Take a look at the guys
Kopitar is having a MVP like season.
Doughty is having one can argue his best season in the NHL.
Quick is playing well.
Tyler is having a great year but is streaky and currently in a slump.
Lucic hasn't scored as much as we'd want him to but I'm really happy with his all around play.

Every one else has pretty much been disappointing at best.
Nick shore was supposed to be a 3C, dude is barely a 4C. Takes idiotic penalties and seems to be have very little offensive skills. He makes Lewis look like a sniper.

Carter has had good stretches and was the offense with Tyler when the season started but now since his injury can't get the puck in the net, only goal he scored, he didn't even really score. (And I effin love Jeff Carter so it's hard to say that)

Brown, we get all excited when he shows some life but guys garbage on the ice about 75% of the season. It's like that scene in that movie Little Big League where the old guy gets a single and the kid gets all excited and the assistant coach says something like, "don't you think it's a problem when you're getting this excited over a single" That kid is the Kings fans with Dustin Brown.

The Defense as a whole has been disappointing. These last 3 games they have been much better but they have been giving up over 3 on a regular basis for a nice long stretch before that. Muzzin has his good moments and has his ATROCIOUS Joe Corvo moments as well and he's probably our 2nd best D? That's a scary thought.

Pearson just hasn't looked the same. He might barely score 10 this year? I was hoping for at least 15 from him this year.

The bottom 6 is pretty crap and has been crap all year. Nolan specializes in the idiotic offensive zone penalties, but it's okay since he scores goals once a while. Clifford does what exactly? I hope one of these two are dealt, only 1 is needed. King is the bright spot of the bottom 6 but now he's playing on a top 6 line.

It's not all doom and gloom but compared to the last few years of runs, this team sure seems to have a lot of complicated moving parts. Kings always acquired 1 guy and had a few call ups that made the difference, this year they need more. Looking back we knew this year DL would not be able to do much to acquire players so I think so far he's done just about all he can do without giving up much, I just worry about what else he might be willing to give up. I don't want to lose Kemp, Mersche, and I really don't want to quit on Pearson yet. You can send Shore packing tho, I really don't like his game.

I guess the positive is the Defense these last 3 games hasn't given up many goals and EVERYONE can't keep slumping, they'll have to eventually wake up and score some goals. If Kopitar doesn't miss much time, they probably still finish 1 or 2 in the Pacific, I'm just not sure they do much in the playoffs without some additions.

Vinny has been a nice addition along with Schenn but the Kings still need more and it's a pretty good team but not a great team when you have SO many holes that need to be filled.

Carter didn't make THAT much of a difference when it came to making the playoffs....I think a lot of people forget we barely squeaked in to the race in 2012. One or two more losses that year, and we'd have a new GM right now.

Not to mention, not too many people thought we had a chance against VAN....NOBODY predicted the dominance that would take place.

I would say this, as long as you have a healthy Kopitar, Doughty, Quick....and Sutter behind the bench, than anything is possible. If we've learned anything from our last two cup runs, is that you should never judge this team by it's regular season performance.

I mean, what are the "SO many holes?" Every team has warts. Washington is maybe the most complete and they're still trying to fix their depth. Our biggest issue is a very clear one, the lack of another top-4 d-man. Beyond that? I really don't see any problems. If we were to magically get a #3 d-man (let's say, magically, Trouba) and another #3 C for depth (let's say E. Staal), we'd be the most fearsome team in the league no question...In essence, same issues we've had since the beginning of the season, and between that and Sutter's usage and comments, I have to believe DL is working on something, right?

I don't see the team as full of holes, just trying to gauge where you're coming from, since the team play as a whole is better, but the results aren't quite there. It's a scoring slump with a historically low shooting percentage and the lowest PDO in the league, which isn't entirely luck obviously but unless you think we have clearly the worst shooters and goaltending in the league despite being the best shot attempt differential team by several percent, we're gonna rebound and big.

And like I said much earlier, I'm one of the few who is willing to sacrifice ANYTHING on the farm to make it happen, especially for a long term 3D solution.

Check the Goals Per Game b4 Carter and Goals Per Game after Carter, it was a huge difference. He had 6 goals and 3 assists in his 16 games with LA before the playoffs but he made it easy to slot the other players where they should have been all year. Everything clicked and they almost won the division and may have if it wasn't for a Clowe stick off the bench. You're right, nobody thought they had a chance but everything just clicked and fell right so you never know. But you know since DL may acquire 4 players in total this year via trade, even he doubts the Kings chances at this point. He probably believed in that 2012 team when the rest of us didn't.

Carter completed the top six imo and made us a legitimate threat, before that look who we were trotting out as scoring line players...we didn't have any snipers (no toffoli, gabby) and he was 'the guy' in that regard, instant offense.

I think that DL acquiring players now is just like last year, a show of support for and faith in the team. He got Sekera when things looked bleak; can't imagine he's sitting on his hands now!

no panic on slovenian forums about kopi's injury. no one's oversensitive, same speculations as here, just with a voice a bit lower. anyhow, i've learned a lesson when i was following kopi's contract and hfboards forum is the sharpest when such things happen.

do we still have a legitimate shot at another cup? no go, not after all this ****, lak is doomed, beyond repair. **** it, cheerz, good luck next season.

ok, i was oversarcastic. do we still have a legitimate shot at another cup? at this moment the ideal scenario is:
#1 lak earns their spot in the playoffs,
#2 kopi gets better
#3 gabby gets better
#4 lombardi signes someone new.

ideal scenario means lak are contenders. and even if #3 OR #4 are missing we're still contenders. in short, it's all about kopi getting better. pray for him. otherwise it's a bird poop.

ps.
Question: What is the white stuff in bird poop?
Answer: That is bird poop, too.

I'd say us making the playoffs gives us a "legitimate chance" at winning the Cup. There are still 25 games left which is a lot of hockey. Our most likely opponents are Nashville, Colorado, Minnesota, or Phoenix if we win the division. If not we get San Jose or Anaheim. Let's assume Kopi is healthy to start the playoffs and we don't get any help at the trade deadline. I'm still only really worried about Anaheim in that scenario. Even there, we have such a familiarity and I don't think they have the goaltending to do it in the playoffs. The way I see it all playing out is Anaheim & Dallas falling off down the stretch. Us and Chicago pick it back up before the playoffs.

Here are my predictions:

Rd 1:
(C1) Chicago vs Minnesota (WC2)
(C2) Dallas vs St Louis (C3)

(P1) LA vs Nashville (WC2)
(P2) Anaheim vs San Jose (P3)

Rd 2:
Chicago vs St Louis
Los Angeles vs Anaheim

WCF:
Los Angeles vs St Louis

Western Conf. Champs:
Los Angeles Kings

I used to be legit. I was too legit. I was too legit to quit. but now I'm not legit. I'm unlegit. And for that reason, I must quit.
In conclusion I was never confident and we've still won twice

Hot Rod was probably the greatest movie about a moped riding stuntman with a fake mustache of all time.

This team goes as far as the current players take it. A worse version of this squad looked like world beaters just over a month ago. The Philly trade happened, and several player's games took nosedives for a variety of reasons. If they don't improve we could be toast anyway. Adding pieces is sexy but isn't always the answer.

Minus some fumbleitis, and I can't wait till we get his minutes back down so he doesn't burn out, but Lecavalier has actually been a better player as a 2C in terms of generating play...can you imagine now if we hadn't made that trade? lolll at our Schenn and Vinny-less roster...
